Oregon Domestic Partner Statute.  EMPLOYERS BE AWARE

Oregon House Bill 2007, may inadvertently, put additional responsibilities on YOU.  This article is intended to provide you, an employer providing employee benefits, with information you need to know.   

OREGON INSURANCE CARRIERS PLACED ON NOTICE  Effective 1/1/08 Oregon insurance carriers may be required to treat registered domestic partners the same as a spouse. The Oregon Insurance Division has circulated a draft of a bulletin placing insurance carriers on notice that any insurance policy issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2008 must provide coverage and benefits to a registered domestic partner under the same terms as provided to the spouse of a married employee.

HB 2007 is being reviewed by the Oregon Insurance Division to determine whether or not to apply it to all insurance policies issued, renewed or delivered in Oregon...
