HIP Roundtable RoundUp: Sustainable Apparel & EcoFashion - September 2008 HIP’s September 2008 Investor Roundtable featured a mix of sustainable apparel innovators: 1. Scott Leonard of Indigenous Designs described the firm’s cradle-to-cradle business model, which brings organic and sustainable knits made by artisans in Peru to the US market. 2. Joslin Van Arsdale explained how her San Francisco boutique Eco-Citizen supports eco-consciousness through providing organic and fair trade clothing that doesn’t sacrifice style. 3. Avni Jamdar and Mona Shah showcased Suutra, which provides artisans in India with employment while preserving their skills, re-imagined for a contemporary fashion line. 4. PACT Apparel (Jeff Denby and Jason Kibbey) – a sustainable underwear brand under the design direction of renowned designer Yves Behar. 5. 82nd and Zeal (Tiffani Neal) - a new online eco-boutique that features “fashion for a cause.”

As a Summer/Fall Associate with HIP, Abha has focused her energies on analyzing how sustainable practices correlate with long-term profitability using statistical techniques. Abha believes more firms will adopt sustainability driven if the top line and bottom line of financial performance are enhanced. Prior to working for HIP Investor, Abha had an extensive career in the I.T. industry, most recently as a project manager and software architect for Unisys Corporation. She is currently a second year MBA student at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania's Executive program. She also holds a MS in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi. Abha’s personal interests include reading non-fiction and political analysis, hiking and innovative cooking.
Jared evaluated several high-tech firms for HIP as a Portfolio Research Assoicate. He is presently earning a Green MBA at the Dominican University of California. Prior to this, Jared worked in the solar industry, helping a startup manufacturer of solar mounting solutions grow its business, develop new products, and streamline operations. As a member of the management team at Trader Joe’s, Jared directed projects, assisted with store operations and drove the brand to maximize the Trader Joe’s “WOW” experience. In Logistics with IKEA, he helped lead teams, evaluated equipment for national roll out, and proposed growth opportunities to North American management. Jared graduated with a BA in Psychology and minors in Entrepreneurial Business and European Studies.
