Summertime fun - Strong House style
Dear Friends,
Summer is almost here and there is so much to do in Vermont, I thought I would give you some great ideas in planning your weekend sojourn:
Sample award winning wines at the Shelburne Vineyards' Wine Tasting Room, open 11am - 5pm. Do a pub-crawl to Otter Creek Brewery, Magic Hat and the Vermont Pub and Brewery. Then sail on Lake Champlain in a classic sailing vessel the "Friendship", 2-hour sailings 3 times daily. Or enjoy a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Ethan Allen. Reservations required for all boat cruises.
Remember, we have Brooks to Bays for Kayaking and canoeing right here in Otter Creek and Dead Creek. Your guide Jeremy Brooks will paddle with you, and point out the wildlife and natural landscape. This is an outdoor adventure for all ages and abilities, so all you need to do is look, listen and relax!
Or how about a private field trip with a naturalist, Sue Whetmore? Her expert knowledge on birds, wild flowers and everything that lives in the forest will give you an experience that you will not forget.
Shelburne Museum will be featuring Mary Cassatt: Friends and Family - paintings, prints, pastels, drawings and letters by the American impressionist. Exhibit begins June 21 - Oct. 26. Also, they will be featuring Quilts in Bloom: A Bouquet of textile art - a dazzling display of flower quilts that include award winning contemporary works.
August 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 is the Addison County Fair and Field Days, so that is a great time to experience the local artists with their arts, crafts and food. This year I plan on entering several categories, so wish me luck. Also, at the fair you can get-up close and personal with Vermont's farm animals, enjoy a demolition derby and even take some carnival rides. It's a great outing for all. We are minutes from the fair grounds.
Mozart Festival begins July 13 through August 3. Check on-line for details at www.vtmozart.org Music, picnic and a fabulous sunset are the highlight to a Vermont Summer evening. This is an experience you don't want to miss.
