Hi there,
March is here and I was tickled to read a friend's facebook status update that it is National Women's History month, so I'll be using a blog entry or two on our home page to pay homage to a few notable 'women of wine' this month. I hope you'll have a chance to join me online.
In non-virtual-life news, Clyde and I are super busy getting the cottage prepared for his parents to move into soon. They'll be enjoying an extended stay at Peaceful Bend while they build a new place here in Steelville. Say hi to them if you get a chance when you are visiting...and be sure to say hi to their golden retriever - Hermie. She enjoys sniffing mole hills, watching birds, and is a vegan who can't eat any animal proteins. She's loving the life of a winery dog already and my two dogs are certainly showing her the ropes around here!
With the promise of spring in the air, we are looking forward to the crocus and daffodils while we gear up to bottle our 2010 wines. We look forward to your next visit here to Peaceful Bend! Cheers, Katie
What's Going On?March 4 - Wine and food pairing dinner at Bugsy's Restaurant in Union, MO. Clyde and I will be joining dinner attendees to talk a bit about our wines and to savor the dishes that chef Patrick Long has created to pair with our wines. 6:30pm Click here for more information.
March 12 - Pony Bird 2011 Great Taste Fundraiser. Join us at the Elks Lodge in Imperial MO at 6pm for a sampling of fine area restaurants, wineries, and a silent auction all to benefit Pony Bird, Inc. Click here for more information.
March 26 - Wine and Ambiance Class at Peaceful Bend Winery. Music has the power to change the whole atmosphere of a room - but what about wine? Can the power of music change the flavors in the wine you drink? Come to this light-hearted tasting for a unique spin on all our so-called tasting rules! 7-9 p.m. $20/person, please reserve your seat by March 24.
Mark Your Calendars!! The Americana Music Festival is May 20-22 and the Chamber Music Concert in the Cellar is June 11 this year. Don't miss these fabulous concert events here at the winery!
A Little Food with Your Wine?
With warmer temperatures, I've been starting to crave summer foods. Since it's still a bit too cold to fire up the grill, I've been pacifying my cravings by purchasing frozen shellfish. And since it's National Frozen Food month in March, this seems like a perfect time to share one of the recipes!
Courtois Mussels
Ingredients: - 2 pounds frozen mussels, boiled according to package directions
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1 small to medium size zucchini, roughly chopped
- 4 cloves chopped garlic
- 1 and 1/2 chopped fresh medium size tomatoes
- 2 leeks, trimmed and sliced
- 3 Tablespoons dried parsley
- 2 cups Courtois
Directions: - Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and saute the zucchini and leeks until crisp-tender. Add garlic and saute for 1 minute more.
- Add the rest of the ingredients except the mussels. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Add the boiled mussels and simmer for 3 more minutes.
- Place mussels into individual bowls and spoon sauce over them. Serve with bread to help soak up that yummy sauce!
Thank You!!!!
Thanks to all of you that bought Forche Renault this past fall and winter, we are able to give the YMCA strong community campaign $173.00 this year! You've made it possible to 2 kids to attend outdoor education camps this year who wouldn't have been able to go otherwise. Thank you so much!!
