Greetings from Mocean Dance!
|
Appeal to your inner rock star. March 18-20, at Neptune Studio Theatre, Mocean Dance will premiere a unique new solo by local choreographer, Cory Bowles, as part of their upcoming show, Live in 3. Entitled Live from the Flash Pan, the work features a solo dancer, Carolle Crooks, as a solo vocalist. Simultaneously playful and tragic, this new solo is vibrant, high-energy and at times poignant.
Rock stars. Dance icons. Celebrities. Everyone has their day. But what happens when everything connects at once, and they're propelled into a sudden fame that comes with three times the amount of consequence? Here is our dance icon, pressured by suits and ties who don't care about the artistry. Here is our pop star, bound to forget what the words to her songs actually mean. Here is our rock star, our flash in the pan, and she's burning out.

Live in 3 is March 18-20 at Neptune Studio Theatre Bowles, who works regularly in music, film, television and dance, is no stranger to mixing genres. “I’ve always seen dance as a sort of punk rock mentality,” he explains, “outside the box and breaking the rules”.
Mocean Dance founding member and Co-Artistic Director, Carolle Crooks, describes Bowles’ new solo as a departure from Mocean’s usual work. “It will shake up the usual format and blur those lines between the rock concert and the dance show,” explains Crooks. Direct and interactive, Live from the Flash Pan will confront the thrilling highs and desperate lows of life in the limelight. Live from the Flash Pan premieres alongside new work by Toronto’s Sharon Moore and Vancouver’s Susan Elliott in Mocean Dance’s latest production, Live in 3. Performances are March 18-20, 8pm, at Neptune Studio Theatre, Halifax. Tickets are $19.50/$22.50 + HST (group rates available in person/by phone). Box office: 429-7070.
