Don't miss this exciting premiere!

Greetings from Mocean Dance!

A dream of return; multi-coloured, joyous

ImageMarch 18-20, at Neptune Studio Theatre, Mocean Dance will premiere a stunning new solo by choreographer Susan Elliott as part of their upcoming show, Live in 3. Entitled Through the Trees, this new work is expressive, compassionate and at times, surreal.

Captivating dancer Sarah Rozee, tumbles and articulates her way through a dance which explores dynamic shifts of physicality and states of being. Emerging from her miniature dwelling, the dancer explores the world outside the security of her home. This exploration contends with ideas of control, freedom, play, patterns and the slightly absurd. Between the safety of home and the risk of the unknown, where does the freedom lie? Neither one place nor the other.

Live in 3 is March 18-20 at Neptune Studio Theatre

ImageElliott describes her new work on Mocean Dance as “theatrical in nature”, but also organic in its development. The Vancouver-based artist chose to set choreography on Rozee “without relying on a distinct narrative”, allowing the dancer to bring her own experiences and unique story to the work.

Mocean Dance founding member Sarah Rozee feels personally connected to the new solo’s more ethereal qualities. “I think I brought that into the picture,” explains Rozee. “One day we were talking about what we were interested in as children and I mentioned that I loved the strange, dream-like oddness of Alice in Wonderland”.

Through the Trees invites the viewer to remember the innocence and the urgency of being a child, and is set to transport audience members to a unique and unforgettable world. This exciting new work by Susan Elliott premieres alongside work by Toronto’s Sharon Moore and Halifax’s own Cory Bowles in Mocean Dance’s latest production, Live in 3. Performances are March 18-20, 8pm, at Neptune Studio Theatre, Halifax. Tickets are $19.50/$22.50 + HST (group rates available in person/by phone). Box office: 429-7070.
