Don't miss this exciting premiere!

Greetings from Mocean Dance!

Have they lost their minds? No...only their way.

ImageMarch 18-20, at Neptune Studio Theatre, Mocean Dance will premiere a new work by choreographer Sharon Moore as part of their upcoming show, Live in 3. Entitled Our Unfortunate Deaths, the trio is vivid, breathlessly fast-paced and unravels a tale that is both dark and enticing.

In a desperate grasp to invigorate their dwindling lives three women (once a royal sisterhood) use their beauty, prowess and brutal force to stay alive. Each strike, each breath, each deliberate move to persist wraps them further into an entwining nightmare. Their only escape is the passion in which they take part in their old world games and long ago manners. Part fable, part murder mystery, part physical marathon Our Unfortunate Deaths is a story of survival…however messy that may be.

Our Unfortunate Deaths plumbs the depths of the human psyche and is sure to enchant and intrigue audience members of Live in 3. Be sure to get your tickets early!

Moore describes her new creation on Mocean Dance as a “movement work in which the performers’ full attention is demanded to deliver precision, emotional fluidity and honest-to-goodness heart-pumping desperation.” The Toronto-based artist who creates as a choreographer, dancer and filmmaker for both stage and screen is known for her challenging movement, and for creating works that are brimming with emotional and visual impact.

Mocean Dance Co-Artistic Director and founding member, Carolle Crooks describes Moore’s choreographic style as one might a running tap. “This quickly-paced, densely detailed movement literally pours out of Sharon, and you have to try your best to digest it as fast as she can move!” During the creation process, the dancers had to be ready to adapt to Moore’s vast and diverse vocabulary of styles and phrasing. “You had to be like a blank canvas,” says company member, Melanie Ferro, “ready for whatever colour Sharon wanted to paint with that day”.
