Mocean Hires New Company Member After a long and thoughtful audition process, Mocean Dance is thrilled to begin their seventh season by welcoming new dancer, Tania Jean, into the fold. Hailing from Quebec, Tania began her pre-professional training at Les Farandoles in Chicoutimi. While in Chicoutimi, Tania was not only a skilled performer and teacher of flamenco, she was also a member of the contemporary dance company, Scheme Danse. Tania moved to Quebec City to specialize in contemporary dance training at L'Ecole de la danse de Quebec. Her performance highlights include works by Tedd Robinson, Maurice Fraga, David Earle and Georges Nicolas Tremblay. She has also apprenticed with Harold Rehaume's dance company, "Le fils d'Adrien danse". Recently graduated, Tania is excited to begin her professional career by joining Mocean Dance.

Mocean in Creation with Estelle Clareton After a much needed rest, Mocean Dance returned to the studio in August for a month of creation with Montreal-based choreographer, Estelle Clareton. Clareton, who has worked as a dancer with Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, Danse Partou and O Vertigo, is known for combining movement and theatrical elements to inject realism and humanity into her work. The company is thrilled to be working with Clareton and is excited by the raw physicality and emotional depth conjured by the choreography. The piece, tentatively entitled Sorrows, will premiere January 22-24 2009, presented by Live Art Dance Productions.

Mocean Dance in the Nocturne Festival Mocean Dance will partner with visual artist, Holly Crooks, in Halifax's annual Nocturne Festival of the Arts. Taking place on October 18th 2008, Nocturne is an art-at-night festival that celebrates all members of the local arts community with collaborations between the visual and performing arts and exhibitions at street-level accessibility. In this collaboration, Crooks will choose selections from her Gathering Time series (pictured left) to install in the Halifax Ferry Terminal. Mocean will then perform segments of improvisational contemporary dance in that same space. The piece, entitled Transitory, will take inspiration from Crooks' photography and explore themes of waiting, temporality and transience.
Don't miss this unique, one-time-only performance on October 18th, 6:00pm in the Halifax Ferry Terminal. To learn more about the Nocturne Festival, click on the link below.
