Environmental Justice Small Grants
The purpose of this EPA grant program is to support and empower communities
that are working on local solutions to local environmental and/or
public health issues. The EJSG Program is designed to assist recipients
in building collaborative partnerships that will help them understand
and address the environmental and/or public health issues in their

Funding for Conferences, Workshops, and Meetings focused on Public Health and the Environment
The EPA is interested in supporting scientific and technical research
conferences that address the following research program areas: (1)
human health; (2) ecosystems; water and security; (3) economics and
sustainability; (4) air and global climate change; and (5) technology. Closing date: December 9, 2008. Learn more.
Promoting Vital Communities
William Penn Foundation is accepting proposals from organizations and
communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to promote vital communities
within a healthy regional ecosystem. Proposals may concern the
following topics: the protection and restoration of watersheds and
related ecosystems, the promotion of "smart growth" and livable
communities, and community stabilization and revitalization. Learn more.
Chesapeake Bay Trust
Grants of up to $5,000 each will be awarded to support projects that
promote public awareness of and participation in the restoration and
protection of the Chesapeake Bay. Projects must be related to one or
more of the trust's grant-making priorities: living-resource protection
and restoration; stewardship and community engagement; sustainable land
usage; vital habitat protection and restoration; and water-quality
restoration and protection. Learn more.

Connecticut:
In early June, Connecticut became the fourth state to enact mandatory limits on state-wide greenhouse has emissions when Governor Jodi Rell signed “An Act Concerning Global Warming Solutions” into law. It requires Connecticut to cut its output of carbon dioxide and other "greenhouse" gases 10 percent below 1990 levels over the next 12 years, and 80 percent below 2001 levels by 2050.Read the Article
New Hampshire:
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) now has the support of 10 states in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic thanks to New Hampshire Governor John Lynch who signed the cap-and-trade program into law on June 11. Read the Article
Regional Event Recap
ICLEI co-hosted the Municipal Climate Adaptation Workshop which convened key local government stakeholders from around the Northeast region to discuss the impacts of a changing climate and opportunities for enhancing the resiliency of local communities. Learn more.
Also held recently: Transportation and Climate Change Project: A Vision of
Future Transportation Along the Connecticut River Valley Working with
ICLEI, communities and regional planning organizations in Connecticut,
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont developed a vision of the
future of transportation and land use along the Connecticut River
Valley to reduce vehicle miles traveled and greenhouse gas emissions
from the transportation sector. To actively involve and educate
additional local, state, and other decision-makers about the region’s
desire, two summits will be held. A local government summit was held on
June 10th in Hartford, CT, and a second summit for state officials will
be held in September

Request for Information: Requesting All GHG Inventories and/or Climate Action Plans!
ICLEI kindly
requests that all members send a copy of their completed inventories,
emissions reduction targets, and actions plan to ICLEI so we can
maintain an up-to-date database of where are members are in
the 5 Milestone process. When sending these documents, can you kindly
specify if these documents are available for review by other ICLEI
members if requested or if these documents should be kept private.
