What you can't SEE, you can't MANAGE

While virtualization provides significant cost and operational benefits for organizations, it introduces several new challenges that traditional physical security and management devices do not address. Many organizations are hesitant to move mission critical applications to a virtualized infrastructure because they lack the visibility and management tools to visualize, understand and control increasingly complex virtual infrastructures.

Virtualization Challenges
  • Limited visibility and control inside the virtual network
  • Meeting stringent compliance regulations
  • Effectively monitoring a dynamic environment
  • Maintaining secure configuration
  • Performance concerns
  • Internal and external threats

Administrators and security professionals may be reluctant to sign-off on virtualization projects because their existing tools and procedures do not protect a virtualized environment.  Likewise, compliance concerns can often slow down the migration to virtualization due to the lack of visibility into the virtualized infrastructure.  Purpose-built virtualization security and management tools are needed to accelerate the adoption of virtualization to take full advantage of the cost savings and productivity benefits.

IT Managers and Virtualization: Plagued by Insecurity?
Virtual Strategy Magazine, Jeff Byrne, Aug 25
The security of virtualized environments is rapidly becoming one of the most talked about issues in IT circles.  The number of new web-based articles and blog postings on this topic has skyrocketed, multiplying some twenty-fold over the past two years.  Several highly popular conference keynotes have recently addressed this topic, and hardly a week goes by that a prominent analyst or IT guru fails to weigh in on the subject.  Are IT professionals themselves becoming insecure about the security of their virtual infrastructures?  Is all of this media attention justified?

Microsoft Loosens Virtualization Limits
WHIR.COM, David Hamilton, Aug 21
Microsoft (microsoft.com) has announced a new licensing policy for virtualization product Hyper-V, loosening restrictions on customers wishing to develop more dynamic datacenters and enterprise IT systems with its virtualization software, which separates a server into multiple virtual machines able to run different applications and operating systems.
