What's New With DD&S?

group1.jpgLook at the drums that came in our latest container! They sound great! It's good to have a new stock of djuns, bourgarabous, African congas, mediumbags.jpg djembe shells, and skins. Sandy is excited about the colorful djembe bags that fit  well. (bags come with regular size retail Ivory Coast djembes, see the December deal below).

Shells from Guinea
, made of lenge, djala and hare wood, are gorgeous. These drums sell quickly. Guinea goatskins are also popular. We have a small supply of both items.

ghana3.jpg
We now have shea butter and djembe necklaces, new kente bags, mud cloth head covers, djun and agogo bells and sticks. We have a few small and regular djembes from Ghana.

African cow hide is popular. We just got a little more. I do have Kip rounds from South America. It is good for heading djembes. Several of our customers are pleased with it.

powder.jpgOur recycled tank drums have changed. Still mesmerizing, they now come in bright red. We're hoping to get them in other colors too.

To keep our customers informed of drumming events we list a few here. We've also started including ads of regional and national events in our packages. We are happy to do this for our customers. Remember that while we do like to pass along the info we are not always aware of the full details. Its up to you to check out any event you plan to attend. Look at the websites, talk to past attendees, or call the promoters!

Sandy and I have been busy working.
together.jpgWe participated in DrumStrong in May by donating a drum, vending and playing in the drum-a-thon. We also had fun at the Bark Bash in June. We went to Paralounge in October. The whole family is looking forward to being together for the holidays. We wish that all of our customers and friends have a peaceful and joyous holiday season.

Paralounge Fall 2009

rhythmchurch.jpgClint and Sharee Tipton did another fabulous job presenting Paralounge in October.  Great News, we enjoyed the new venue, Cerveny Conference Center!  We were able to vend and fix drums and be dry. The next Paralounge is booked for the same local on May 7 – 9th, 2010.  Arthur Hull will present his Rhythmical Alchemy Workshop on May 5 - 7 in the same location. Go to the web site for info, videos & pics.

Tip:Measuring Rope

verticles.jpgVerticals
Multiplying the number of loops on one ring by 2 gives the number of verticals the drum will have. Measure from the top of the drum to where the bottom ring sits and add 2”. Multiply this sum by the number of verticals and then divide by 12.  This is the amount of feet of rope needed to string verticals.

loops.jpgLoops

Normally l
oops are spaced about 2 finger widths apart (1¼“). Rope for the top ring is 4 times the circumference of the ring. It is 5 ¼ times the circumference of the bottom ring.

breastcancerdrum1.jpg Heart Song Djembe - This one of a kind drum was created to help raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer. It was auctioned by Studio 1219 of St. Clair County, Michigan. The drum was designed by Bryan Turner of Oftbeat Percussion. Nathaniel Hall of Everyone’s Drumming in Putney Vermont,www.everyonesdrumming.com, crafted and donated the drumhead. DD&S donated the shell and rings.

Drum Dictionary - Drum Circle Etiquette
Dragon Bob is an interesting man that we met up with at the Drum and Dance Fest in French Lick, Indiana. An excellent drummer, he was a concert cellist for many years. He gave a workshop on drum circle etiquette and thunder drumming. Click here to read what he said.
