CSO College Center is an online clearinghouse of college programs and admissions information serving first-generation, low-income, and minority student populations. Learn about these outreach, recruitment, and retention programs and more to find schools promoting a college-bound culture.

Baldwin-Wallace Scholars Program

Baldwin-Wallace Scholars Program provides young urban males with the confidence, skills, and knowledge to enter college on a level equivalent to that of their peers from surrounding high schools.  B-W Scholars participate in a 12-month schedule of academic enrichment, mentoring, leadership development, an intensive summer program, and targeted support over four years from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Baldwin-Wallace College.

Leadership, Excellence, and Achievement Program (LEAP)

The LEAP program focuses on assisting Colby students achieve academic excellence through the development of leadership skills. The program is supported by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and is run by a team of trained upper-class student leaders, who are dedicated to helping students succeed in their transition into life at Colby. Through programming, education and awareness workshops LEAP Leaders help to empower a student community that acknowledges, respects, and appreciates differences and academic excellence.

Gonzaga University Community Scholarship

Gonzaga University Community Scholarship is a $20,000 award (spread over 4 years) awarded to outstanding students who are first-generation college bound, or from an under-represented cultural background or whose unique life experiences would contribute to the diversity of the Gonzaga community. Scholarship recipients should demonstrate significant contributions to school or community in promoting cultural awarenss and exhibit intercultural leadership qualities. Students are automatically considered for the award upon admission to the university.

African Diaspora in the World

African Diaspora in the World is a two-semester course sequence that is both interdisciplinary and gender informed. The course communicates the values and concepts central to Spelman College: sisterhood, leadership, a love of learning; a sensitivity to cultural differences, the use of diverse methods of scholarly investigation, and the association between learning and social change. Through exposure to such an approach, students comprehend that there are many ways of knowing, and that such ways can be integrated to advantage in confronting the challenges they inherit as women of the African Diaspora.

Stanford University

Leading through Education, Activism and Diversity (LEAD)

LEAD is a leadership development program for Stanford students (primarily freshmen and sophomores) interested in exploring issues of cross-cultural collaboration and activism for the purpose of social change. The program is led by the staff of Stanford’s four ethnic community centers (the Asian American Activities Center, the Black Community Services Center, El Centro Chicano, and the Native American Cultural Center) and the Office of Multicultural Education. LEAD begins with a fall retreat which explores the Social Change Model of leadership development, and in later semesters, students work in small groups to implement the model and organize a community or university social change project.

The mission of Onyx is to promote community interaction among Black students at Washington and Lee University. In order to achieve this mission, Onyx will provide a forum for the exchange of economic, political, social and cultural views of Black students; expose issues pertaining to Black students along with nurturing intra-campus and intercampus relationships with other organizations; and perform community service within Rockbridge County.
