Hello Mystery Readers,
The draft for the second police procedural, "The Black Minute", featuring St. Paul Homicide Detective John Santana is complete. The editing process now begins. The book's title is taken from a line in a Robert Browning poem on death entitled, "Prospice". You can Google it if you'd like to read the entire poem.
A few of the characters from the first book will return. However, there will be a number of new and interesting characters as well. You'll learn more about Santana's sister, Natalia, and who knows? Santana may even fall in love.
Some of you have asked about a Kindle version of White Tombs. I'm working on making that available soon on Amazon for those of you who are using the latest technology. I see the book industry changing in much the same way as the music industry has changed. Many of us still enjoy going to a book store and buying a book we can hold in our hands. Hopefully, that option will always exist. But e-books and Kindle and other technological advances may increase readership and open up the world of books to a whole new generation of readers.
I had a terrific time as a guest on the Al Malmberg Show on WCCO radio last month. It was my first opportunity to do a live in-studio radio show. Al has been doing his 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. show for many years now and is a wonderful host and enthusiastic supporter of White Tombs. We had lots of laughs. My biggest concern was staying awake for the 1:00-2:00 a.m. interview. I don't know how he does it every week night. I'm working with my web host to post the interview on my website.
You are invited to a reading and discussion of White Tombs at e.p. atelier at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14th. The address is 609 South 10th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55404. Their phone number is 612-332-4000. e.p. atelier hosts a variety of arts and culture events including music. Check out their website at http://www.epatelier.com for more information. This is a completely different venue for me, and I'm looking forward to the evening. I hope to see you that night.
I'll be returning to Rochester, MN on December 2nd and December 6th. This will be my fourth and fifth trips to the city for book signings. I've had a great customer response and wonderful support from the two Rochester Barnes & Noble stores in the city. See my website at www.christophervalen.com for more information regarding the events.
Once again thanks for your support and thanks for the opportunities I've had to meet with more book clubs this past month. I've been so impressed with your questions and the richness of the discussions.
I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving and Holiday season.
