Come enjoy the spirit of the holiday season at Lime Hollow on Sunday, December 13, 1-3pm. Listen to live music, warm-up with a cup of hot chocolate or cider, and browse our gift shop for that special gift. Share the spirit of the holiday season with your family as you learn about holiday cultures from around the world. Stations will include a craft or food sample from a specific culture. Don't forget to check out Santa's Workshop and make some reindeer food. Jolly Old St. Nicholas will be making a special visit to our winter wonderland!

You're sure to find that perfect tree! There will be plenty of assistance on hand to help pick out that perfect tree.

Stalks of goldenrod throw back their shaggy gray heads in the wind. Crowded legions cover acre after acre, once a vibrant yellow blanket, now as muted as the silver, brown and gray tones of the leafless trees that edge the fields. Here at my sit spot in the woods near Chicago Bog the landscape is startlingly open since the leaves have fallen, and my once secluded hollow seems hopelessly exposed. The veil of foliage has been lowered, colorful piece by colorful piece, until none but the curled leaves of beeches and oaks are left hanging to shake and quiver in the wind. Today is mostly calm, however, and while listening I make a curious discovery: ubiquitous constant crackling. Dry leaves on the forest floor are adjusting themselves ever so slightly to a nearly unnoticed breeze. The “still” woods are moving.

Come out to Lime Hollow this winter and rent outdoor equipment from our new Nordic Center. We have an excellent selection of snow shoes and cross country skis for all ages. Equipment will be available on January 5. Don't forget, if you have your own equipment, feel free to use our trails from dawn to dusk. Trail maps are located at the kiosk by the Visitor Center for your convenience . Don't pass up a great opportunity to go cross country skiing and snow shoeing this winter.
