Kimochi, Inc.
will host its first-time-ever fundraising Telethon on Saturday, March 27,
4:00 PM - 5:30 PM, on KTSF-TV, the Bay Area’s foremost Asian-language TV
station. The Telethon will will feature
Director and San Francisco’s
Public Defender, Jeff Adachi’s documentary film, The Slanted Screen, a film
about the stereotypical depictions and absence of Asian males in American
cinema. From silent film star Sessue Hayakawa to Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle,
The Slanted Screen examines
portrayals of Asian men in film and television and how a new generation of
independent filmmakers are redefining age-old stereotypes.
Former ABC news
correspondent, Ken Kashiwahara, will host the Telethon pledge breaks which will
highlight Kimochi Lounge, Social Services, Congregate Nutrition Program, Home
Delivered Meals Program, Transportation, Kimochi Home, board members and
corporate sponsors.
Honorary
co-chairs of the Telethon are Mayor Gavin Newsom and Counsel-General of Japan,
Yasumasa
Nagamine. Counsel-General Nagamine will
also participate in a Telethon pledge break.
During the telethon, viewers will be able
to call-in (415) 931-2294 to make a donation. Proceeds will help offset the
$100,000 city budget cut that greatly impacts Kimochi programs and services.

When
was the last time you thought about Senior Fraud?
Beware!
On
Monday, March 8th from 1:30-2:30PM, Kimochi
will be hosting a presentation on
Senior Fraud at the Kimochi Senior Center on 1840
Sutter Street, Issei Memorial Hall in San Francisco's Japantown.
The presenter is
Robin Meyers from Kaiser Permanente and Japanese
translation will be provided.
This is a
free event open to the community. Please spread the word to your family
and friends and encourage them to attend. This is a
very important topic and will help people understand
what to look for and what
to do if they suspect they are being targeted.

Do you live in the Peninsula
and/or have family and friends there? We want your input!
On Sunday, April 4th, the San Mateo Chapter
of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) is hosting a community event
for all to come hear and ask questions about Kimochi's plans to offer some of
their programs to Peninsula residents.
Anna Sawamura, Program Director for Kimochi,
will discuss Kimochi's plans and ask the attendees which of those programs and
services would be most utilized and needed on the Peninsula.
The Town Hall event will be begin 1:00PM at
Social Hall of the San Mateo Buddhist Temple
on 2 South Claremont Street
in San Mateo.
Light refreshments will be served.
