YOUTH MEDIA CALENDAR! TCYMN is putting together an online calendar. Youth media opportunities offered by our 15 member organizations will be highlighted, and include workshops, screenings, and events. You can link directly with the organization or school offering the activity you are interested in. Our member organizations are diverse, providing a variety of youth media resources in the Twin Cities.
The calendar will continue to grow for easy access.

NEWS: GIRLS IN THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR EXPANDS THE LENS
The Girls in the Director's Chair, a Walker Art Center Teen Program in collaboration with the annual Women with Vision International Film Festival, concluded it's 13th successful year on March 1st. Two programs and three screenings filled the Saturday afternoon schedule and brought together young women filmmakers from across the state. GIDC showcased 36 films made by girls ages 8-18.

EVENTS: NEIGHBORHOOD VIDEO CAMPS
Liberty Plaza & Rondo Community Outreach Library Videos from recent camps at Liberty Plaza and Rondo Community Outreach Library premiere on YTV this month Mondays from 7:30-8pm. Youth at Liberty Plaza , a housing development in Cathedral Hill, worked with SPNN in December and January to produce two videos. These videos combined personal narrative with green screen technology and explored the topics "Football" and "All About Me."
Youth at Rondo Community Outreach Library participated in a 3-week camp in January and produced two videos. One looked at segregation between youth in community spaces and the other explored pollution from a personal perspective. Tune in to YTV in March to catch these amazing videos exploring local issues from a youth perspective!

Real Reality TV: YouTube, TV, and Blogs
Make a video and put it on YouTube! Get the word out through blogging. We will make videos about what's going on in the real world. Thirty seconds is all it takes to wake people up and begin to change the world. Learn how to use video cameras, edit, and act on camera. Have fun! All experience levels welcome.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG MEDIA MAKERS: Story Board Producer's Workshop
Before producers walk the red carpet, they become masters at taking that big vision and breaking it down into manageable steps.
To discover how professional producers get scripts to the screen, come to our Producing Workshop!
You’ll learn the nuts and bolts of how to take an idea and turn it into a film or video, how to meet influential people, and how to be creative with resources you have at hand.
You’ll have an opportunity to work closely and have your questions answered by producers who work in film, television, and video.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG MEDIA MAKERS: SPNN SEEKING YOUTH INTERNS
YIP or the Youth Intern Program is an intensive summer program for St. Paul high school students to build skills in video production, civic engagement, and career exploration. Over an 8-week period, a diverse group of youth produce Public Service Announcements and documentaries about issues affecting youth in Saint Paul.

OPPORTUNTITIES FOR EDUCATORS SUMMER MEDIA WORKSHOPS PLANNED
Perpich Center for Arts Education will be offering two classes this summer for teachers and will be led by nationally recognized media arts teacher Nancy Norwood (left). Two semester graduate credits are available for these classes through Bemidji State University for $100/credit. Classes are limited to 14 and are expected to fill up quickly. GRANTS THE PEOPLE SPEAK VIDEO CONTEST: Think Globally, Report Locally Got media skills? Interested in the connection between your life and global issues? This is the contest for you.
What is this? Students choose one of four global issues: Kick the Habit – De-carbonizing our lifestyles and economies World Heritage – Local sites and international interests Growing Up Girl – Challenges facing girls everywhere World Water – Access to clean water Then, find the local angle to the issue, and create a 1-2 minute video news story. Three winning teams of up to two students and one teacher will receive an all expenses-paid trip to attend the United Nations Foundation Youth Leadership Summit. This summit, held July 17-19 at the United Nations headquarters in New York , is an exciting opportunity to meet other students interested in global issues, receive a special UN tour and the opportunity, and meet high-ranking UN officials. GRANTS PAY IT FORWARD FOUNDATION GRANT The Pay it Forward Foundation offers Students the opportunity to identify what they consider to be the challenges of their communities. They tackle such problems as homelessness, pollution, youth violence, literacy issues, the loneliness experienced by long-term hospital and nursing home patients, and the alienation of today's at-risk youth from the community. The Pay It Forward Foundation provides seed money for such worthwhile projects.
Your school, church or community youth group may apply for this $500 mini-grant to fund a one time project with a Pay It Forward focus. Applications will be accepted anytime by email to grants@payitforwardfoundation.com.

Hamburger Helper gives money to projects that improve a hometown and benefit the community. It can only give money to organizations that have 501(c)(3) status. Proposals will be accepted online from February 1 – March 31 2008. This website also contains some great fundraising ideas!
