Identity Theft: How To Avoid It
Gartner Says Worldwide PC Shipments on Pace to Grow 22 Percent in 2010
Worldwide PC shipments are projected to total 376.6 million units in 2010, a 22 percent increase from 308.3 million units shipped in 2009, according to the latest preliminary forecast by Gartner, Inc. Worldwide PC spendingis forecast to reach $245.4 billion in 2010, up 12 percent from 2009. Gartner Says Most Organizations Should Be Planning and Testing Windows 7 in 2010 and Try Eliminating Windows XP by End of 2012 Most organizations should be planning and testing Windows 7 this year, and most organizations should try to eliminate Windows XP by the end of 2012, according to Gartner, Inc.Gartner analysts said organizations need to decide when to begin their migration to Windows 7, set a target date to have Windows XP out, and decide whether to deploy Windows 7 to all PCs, only to new PCs, or to a mix. "In various Gartner polls and surveys, 80 percent of respondents report skipping Windows Vista. With Windows XP getting older and Windows 8 nowhere in sight, organizations need to be planning their migrations to Windows 7," said Michael Silver, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. "Windows 7 has been getting positive reviews, and many clients report that they have plans to start their production deployments, but there are some that are still undecided about when to start and how quickly to do the migration."
Employers look for ways to use social media sites
If not, your company may be too old school -- stuck in the trappings of baby boomer business practices. "It's the dumbest policy in the world to block your employees from going to social media sites," said Mark Ragan, a Chicago-based corporate communications specialist. "You get Gen Y entering the workforce, and those people live on Facebook. ... They'll laugh at you." Although major Michigan companies like GM, Ford and Chrysler allow employees to access Facebook, Twitter and Linked In from the office, a debate boils regarding the pros and cons of such social networking business policies.
