THRC
JUNE 2009

Hello Andy,

Club members,  I hope you have been using the training pond and grounds. They look great. The afternoon showers are keeping the water cool and refreshing for the dogs to enjoy! Summer is here! With summer comes those dreadful hot days.  When we were at the training pond Sunday, fresh water was running out of the overflow due to all of our Spring showers.  The Fall test has new dates because of the Master National (yes, it is the opening day of deer season). I think it will be cooler for the dogs and handlers. Bear has been busy lining up judges for the event. We have old and new friends coming for the weekend. It will be lots of fun. They are as follows:

Master A - Jim Branning and Clarke Pauly

Master B - Mary Williams and Chris Adams

Senior and Junior - Pam Hind  and Cole Fertic

                                                         Sidney Williams

                                                         Alice Weatherly

If you have run your dog under a particular judge that you would like for us to invite, Bear would like to hear from you.  E-mail him at judgebear1@gmail.com or call him at 850.973.7404 with the name(s). The membership information has been updated on the THRC web site and the directory is going out next week.  Please look at your information and send corrections today. If your renewal is in the mail make sure you send Jim an e-mail at JBrann7565@aol.com  so we can include your information. We have had a number of requests for a new directory so we want to make sure the information is correct.

The Waterloo Amateur Retriever Club and the Master National committees have a great event planned for 2009, with a record number of dogs qualified. If you are planning on making the trip to Texas, make your room reservations early. You may also want to talk with your veterinarian about the rattlesnake vaccine. I have talked with Dr. Beckey Malphus. She recommends getting it before the trip. She has some up-to-date information on the vaccine.  Becky was a guest speaker at an informational workshop on the rattlesnake vaccine this past Spring.  I know that Clanton, Malphus and Hodges has the vaccine, if your veterinarian does not have it.  The MN team is already working on the 2010 event to be held in CA.   Again, our deepest sympathies are extended to Margo Bindhardt’s family.

Happy Training,Sam Ferguson

bees.jpgBee Stings

Instant Relief from Bee Stings If you, or someone you know, get stung by a bee, do this: First, remove the stinger by gently scraping it away with a credit card or dull knife.

Next, grab a tablet of Alka-Seltzer and moisten it slightly so that it starts fizzing when you apply it to the sting. Alka-Seltzer contains baking soda, which reduces inflammation....and aspirin, which relieves pain. And the fizzing allows both substances to travel beneath your skin, providing immediate relief!
