COCKROACHES, THE SUPER AND MI ABUELITA
Nuyorican poet Fish Vargas shares poetry with seniors
And seniors "slam" back at Open Mike!
The National Endowment for the Arts and Poets House have a thing for seniors. They want them to be heard. At an Open Mike session on Friday, October 23 at Riverstone, Fish Vargas shared his heartfelt city-inspired poems with an audience of 75 seniors. Giving voice
to a teaching cockroach, building supers and his "abuelita" grandmother, Fish Vargas entertained with his powerfully rhythmic verse -- and invited the audience to share their own words. 
Felix Román, Ylda Domínguez and Cándido Sención from the Senior Center and Community Caregiving programs read their own creative words and were joined by board member Peter Martin and Community Liaison David Currier at the mike. We already have a list started for the next "slam!"
Keep your eyes on Riverstone's creative seniors!
no walk in the park -- but an October walk in the park each year helps caregivers and family members dealing with Alzheimer's by raising funds for the Alzheimer's Association. An energetic team of walkers -- members and volunteers from the Community Caregiving support program -- supported the work of the Alzheimers Association on their annual walk.
