This is an amazing approach to teaching music that was created by the composer Carl Orff, well known as the composer of the famous musical composition, Carmina Burana. This teaching method allows the children to make beautiful music together using Orff percussive instruments, at a very young age, very quickly.
We are fortunate to have been allowed to use the UCOH music team’s instruments, and the children are exploding with their new found musical talents! The instruments we are currently using, and which they are learning by name, are the metalophone, the rose wood xylophone, the glockenspiel, and have just recently added a bit of piano accompaniment! They are learning proper mallet technique, music dynamics (loud, soft, fast, slow) rhythm, and are working on functioning as an ensemble (starting all at the same time!!) Now that takes restraint! I am not really sure who is having more fun with this, the children or Ms. Lisa!!
