FILTER IN QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WITH THE CRC Career Readiness Credential Do you need assistance with pre-screening job seekers for your available positions? Do you want to ensure that the candidates you hire are employable and trainable? Do you want to find out about a no-cost job skills assessment program? If you answered yes, then join us on Wednesday June 24, 2009, from 11:30-1:00, for a luncheon at Mario’s Italian Steakhouse. RochesterWorks will be presenting the successes of using the WorkKeys Career Readiness Credential (CRC) to assess and measure the skill levels of job seekers. Hear how 1 local organization has been using the program as a pre-screening and selection tool to filter in candidates, thus resulting in qualified employees and retention. Giannina Naylon brings to RochesterWorks a strong background in recruiting and placement, business development and program management in the Monroe County and Upstate New York area. As a native Rochesterian, she has a solid grasp on the needs of the job seeker and what the local business community requires. Prior to coming to RochesterWorks, she worked for Weterrings & Agnew, a professional placement firm which provides recruiting services both locally and nationwide. She was Manager of the Office Careers division which specializes in the recruitment and placement of experienced administrative, human resources, sales and marketing, finance and accounting, call center and inside sales personnel. Additionally, Giannina was a Job Counselor at the Monroe #2 Orleans BOCES Adult Education Department where she assisted the Welfare To Work population in obtaining job readiness skills and finding employment. Before that, she was employed by The Monroe County Office of Employment and Training and coordinated the Summer Youth Employment Program as well as other programs targeted at youth. All together, she brings over 25 years of job placement and counseling experience to her role of Placement Specialist at RochesterWorks. As a Placement Specialist with RochesterWorks, her focus is on youth training and job development. This position encompasses coordinating the RochesterWorks Summer Youth Employment Program as well as facilitating training, internships and on the job training opportunities for both in school and out of school youth. Her mission is clear – to help young people build skills, gain knowledge, experience the world of work and prepare for their future.
FINGER LAKES WIRED SCHOLARSHIP STILL HAS FUNDS AVAILABLE The Finger Lakes Wired Scholarship has available funds for businesses to train their encumbered workforce in the following industries: Advanced Manufacturing, Alternative Energy, Bio/Life Sciences, Business Services, Engineering, Food & Agriculture, Health Care (including not-for-profit Health Care organizations, if training employees that provide direct healthcare to their customers), Information Technology, and Optics/Imaging. If you are thinking about applying for the Finger Lakes Wired Scholarship, here are a couple of items to keep in mind while you are putting the application together.1. Do you have a complete application? (i.e.: grant application, budget sheet, and proof of costs for the training and course descriptions) 2. Does your company qualify as one of the emerging industries? 3. Can your training be completed within three months? (contracts are written for up to 3 months) 4. Does the training result in in-demand transferrable skills? Will the new skills upgrade the current skills of your workforce? Does the training meet the goals of the strategic plan of the company? 5. Training must lead to one of the following: 1) The development of management competencies of mid - senior level Managers, 2) Development of technical/occupational skill competencies of employed workers or 3) Implementation of process or productivity improvement initiatives (such as Lean, ISO, Six Sigma, Sarbanes Oxley, etc).For more information about the Finger Lakes Wired Scholarship please contact: Kristy Ioele, Business Services Representative, kioele@rochesterworks.org or 585-258-3548.
The Workforce Investment Board of Monroe County/Rochester has made available Federal grant funds to small and medium sized businesses in Monroe County to address employer demands for skilled workers and upgrade the skills of their employees earning between $8.00 and $25.00 per hour. Organizations may request up to $10,000 per application, for training that can be completed within six (6) months. Customized Training grants will provide funds to businesses to train employed workers in specific skills needed by the business or industry leading to potential career growth, job retention and increased wages. As a result of training, eligible trainees should attain in-demand, transferable skills or industry-recognized certifications/credentials. Training should also relate to one or more of the following purposes: introduction of new technology, introduction of a new service or the ability to serve an underserved population, and/or upgrading to new jobs that require additional skills. Applicants are required to provide matching funds equal to the amount of funds requested. Payments are made on a reimbursable basis once training is completed and cost and trainee documentation is submitted. Applicants must comply with New York State Labor Law.
