February 2010

Welcome Dwon, to our BIG NEWS February 2010 newsletter.

•  BIG NEWS: Over 200 students in 2009 & over 750 web hits per month!
We trained over 200 students in 2009!  Some were professionals, some were intermediates, some were beginners, but everyone was Advanced/Expert by the end of their training!  We launched the  photography careers of a few of our students, and helped others win prestigious photography awards!

Our web presence is also growing with an average of over 750 hits to our site a month!  Not bad considering our site doesn't pay for web placement or advertising.  Our site is built and maintained by instructor Dwon Guvenir who uses his creativity to help keep us at the top of searches.  Web consulting is available if you'd like to work on your web presence.

Our passion is for teaching photography in an easy to understand, intuitive, and universal way so that every student, no matter what level they were when they started, is fully capable of picking up any camera in any situation and making whatever they want happen, in camera!

•  BIG NEWS: We've partnered with Amazon.com to help you find great gear!
We urge our students to contact us whenever they need guidance in picking out new gear.  Well, the more students we teach, the more time we spend just with gear questions.  So we partnered with Amazon.com to showcase products they sell that we have used, currently use, or would use.  We wouldn't recommend a product unless we had confidence in it's ability to save you time and money out in the field, that and the fact that you just can't beat the prices on Amazon.

We aren't selling the products, we're simply acting as a portal to our top picks on Amazon.  When you purchase one of the items through our "aStore" portal you're buying from one of Amazon's vendors directly, not us.  We're simply showcasing products Amazon's selling to help you find gear you need.

It also gives us a way to track our effectiveness promoting the awesome products some of our partners like Wacom and OnOne Software make.  So please utilize our
aStore when making your purchases!

You can find the link on our home page for Gear You Need, and then the Our Top Gear Picks will take you to our aStore.  We also have links on our Gear You Need page to Markins Ball Heads which aren't offered on Amazon.com but in our opinion are the best ball heads on the planet!

•  BIG NEWS: We've been approved as PPA Continuing Ed again!
Again this year, we're proud to announce that all our Weekend Workshops are Professional Photographers of America Continuing Education Systems workshops earning our students merits towards their Master Photographer Degree.

Our Portland Weekend Workshops are a great way to get the most for your money with a breakdown in the class curriculum.  Saturdays are the Advanced Photography workshop for $100 which gives PPA members 1 Merit and Sundays are the Composition and Lighting workshops for $150 ($200 value) which gives PPA members 1 Merit.  That gives PPA members 2 Merits in two days for only $250!

•  BIG NEWS: Geocaching in 2010!
This year we'll be leaving Geocaches at many of our favorite locations around the state!  Each Geocache will contain Photo Tips (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced tips) and a set of near by coordinates to put those tips to good use to make Amazing Images!!!

It may not sound like much now but consider those weekends when you don't have any idea of what to do.  You'll go to our web site where you'll be directed to the page where you can download the coordinates directly to your GPS unit.  Then you head out treasure hunting to find the cache.  When you find it, you'll follow the coordinates in the cache to the photo location and the tips in the cache to make amazing images!  It will be a blast.  I'll keep you posted when we set our first cache.

Partners Wanted: We're interested in working with our current partners and making new partners to help us make this happen on a large scale.  If you're interested in becoming involved in this project with us please contact us.  Consider that our partners will be listed on each geocache page that is posted on the different geocaching sites with redirects back to their site.
