A Letter from Principal Gillian Smith
Friends,
Our
mission statement is to create critical thinkers and life long learners. I feel like we did it. I’m so proud of the work these young people
have done. The path has not been smooth—there have been a lot of bumps. There’s been crying, there’s been so many
different things, but they didn’t give up... Click here for the full text.
Choosing to Participate!
Learn more about the series of multimedia Choosing to Participate (CTP) projects, created in partnership with Urban Arts. Born out of Facing History and Ourselves’ educational and civic initiative of the same name, the work strives to challenge biases and to encourage people to consider the responsibilities of citizenship. It’s also a chance for neighbors to come together to consider ways to build community.
On June 2nd, seniors showcased their Choosing to Participate work at City College in New York City. Check out the slideshow and read what people who came had to say about it here. And here too.
Click here to read a profile of two of the participating seniors, Zanetta King and Olivia McClendon, and check out a clip of their film "In My Shoes," a documentary about teen homelessness in New York, which premiered recently at the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival.
