Making Time To Get Organized

According to The Complete Idiot's Guide To Organizing Your Life, "you can't afford the time NOT to get organized. Just consider all the extra steps, the time wasted, the duplicated efforts, the frustration, the feelings of losing your grip, the missed appointments and important events, and the lost moments. Getting organized will fill your pockets with time to spare."

Getting organized should not be seen as an expense, but rather an investment.

Take a moment to think about the cost of chaos and disorganization in your life and how much time and money is lost. Rather than wasting that time and money on chaos, invest it in yourself by setting up organizational & time management systems which will help you achieve higher levels of productivity, success, and time spent doing the things you love.

Set your goals and break them down into small tasks. Give yourself 10 minutes at a time on each task. Getting organized can be overwhelming at times, however if you take baby steps and put one foot in front of the other, you will soon get to your desired state. If you decide the help of a professional is needed to offer ideas, information, structure, solutions and/or systems, give Y.E.S. a call. We will be glad to assist you in reaching your goals!

Y.E.S. Organizing Tip - Child Safety Label

This summer I purchased season passes to Discovery Kingdom for my daughter and I. Every time we make a trip to the amusement park, I make sure to bring a couple large size labels written in permanent ink with the following information on it, "Please call (parent's cell number) if I am lost". I place a label on my daughter's back and replace it if it gets wet (due to water rides).

During our recent visit to Discovery Kingdom, my daughter and I witnessed a little boy around the age of 2 crying and screaming for his daddy. He was lost. A park employee took him to security to wait for his parents. I noticed the boy had no identification on him. Next time you take your little one out to a crowded location, use a Child Safety Label. It will save you much heartache!
Y.E.S. Organizing Tool - Tickler File

A tickler file is simply a set of 31 numbered files representing each day of the month and a set of 12 files behind them for each month of the year. You may have heard of a tickler file before, but haven't taken advantage of it. Make a point this month to set one up. It will save you the embarrassment of missing your next doctor's appointment, friend's birthday, or girls night out.

As invitations, tickets, school projects, permission slips, or anything with date-specific importance make their way into your home, you can file them into your tickler file. When the event draws near, you will have all the information needed. Just make sure to put the information into the file for the date you need to take action on, not when it is due. Keep information for later months in the 12 monthly folders. This is a good place for birthday cards, vacation information, holiday planning, etc..

A tickler file system should occupy prime real estate (such as your household command center/information center). It should be checked daily and works only if used regularly.

Organization is a state of mind, not a thing!
