Y.E.S. Organizing Tip - Organizing Your Toddler

Without organizing skills, some children may fall behind academically or socially. Unfortunately, the skills necessary to be an organized
individual are not always taught in school. Therefore, it is up to the parents to start teaching their little ones how to sort, purge, and categorize. It’s best to teach children organizational skills as soon as they are able to understand. Even around the age of two, most children can begin learning the skill of organizing their own toys.

Begin the process by approaching the child in a loving manner, with a non-judgmental attitude. Explain to the child in a non-critical way that it's time to develop a plan for him or her to get organized. Working along side the child to create a system that he or she can manage while explaining the purpose of each system will give them a good foundation for success. Get your child involved in developing a system that works with their learning style and habits. Make sure to emphasis the benefits of maintaining the system they created since the child, and not the parent, should be maintaining it. You can even show your child pictures of what an organized room looks like.

If the parent is having a difficult time teaching the child these valuable skills, seek a professional for help.

Y.E.S. Organizing Tool - Chalk Board Paint

Y.E.S. loves the invention of chalk board paint! This is a great tool to use throughout the home, office, and/or school. Chalk board paint can be purchased at most craft and paint supply stores.

  • Paint the top of a youth size table and let young ones draw.
  • Paint a kitchen cabinet or pantry door (inside or outside) and create a message board.
  • Be bold and paint an entire wall to create a family size canvas.
  • Paint a rectangle onto three storage containers and write with chalk "aluminum", "glass", and "paper". Great for recycling!

Most surfaces can be painted with chalk board paint. Think outside of the box and get painting! If you have a unique idea, Y.E.S would love to hear about it. Send your ideas to Tips@yourefficiencyspecialist.com

"Being organized is an ideal, a goal to move toward, not a state to achieve. To expect perfection in anything is to invite defeat."

- Sheree Bykofsky
