May 2010
Summer is finally right around the corner and we're ready for it! It's been a wet, rainy spring and we can't wait for some warm evenings, crisp glasses of Sauvignon Blanc and fresh summer veggies. Here are a few updates from the Farm.
Let the Bidding Begin!
The Napa Valley Vintners will be celebrating 30 years of giving back to the community this June with Auction Napa Valley. Clif Family Winery will be pouring at Friday's Taste Napa Valley Event and donating an E-Auction Lot. Our lot (#460) includes a special farm-to-table dinner hosted for you and five of your friends by Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford at Clif Family Farm. Visit the Napa Valley Vintners web site to check out all of the great lots and to place your bids. May the highest bidder win!
What's all the buzz about?
There has been a lot of buzz going on around the farm and with good reason. This month, some honey bees made their home at Clif Family Farm. Having bees on the farm will help with the pollination and growth of our fruit orchard, olive orchard and vegetable gardens. In the near future we may also be producing honey...things might start getting a little sticky!
Ahh...the Sweet Sounds of Bottling
This is the time of year when you will hear bottles clanging throughout the valley as they are filled with the newest vintages. You can expect to see some new releases of your favorite wines including Gary's Improv Zinfandel, Rte. Blanc Sauvignon Blanc, and Climber White Sauvignon Blanc. There are some new surprises with this latest bottling, so keep an eye out!
Rte. Blanc End of Vintage Sale
For all you Rte. Blanc lovers, during the month of May, we are offering an end-of-vintage sale on our 2008 Rte. Blanc Sauvignon Blanc. This wine normally retails for $18/bottle and is on sale for $12/bottle when you buy a case. Take advantage of this special offer by visiting our tasting room or our web site and using code RTEBLANC.
Save the Date!
The second annual Clif Family Farm Harvest Party is scheduled for Saturday, September 18th. Mark your calendar for this fun event that helps support Community Alliance with Family Farmers. We had a blast last year and don't want you to miss out!
Recipe from the Farm: Fish Tacos with Pineapple Salsa
It is getting warmer outside and nothing is better than opening a bottle of chilled Rte. Blanc and enjoying a glass with some fish tacos with fresh tomato pineapple salsa.
Fish Taco Filling:
½ cup pineapple juice
½ cup lime juice
A tablespoon of salt
1 tablespoon of FRESH oregano chopped
4 garlic gloves chopped
A dash of pepper
½ pound your choice of fresh fish (suggest cod)
2 tablespoons of cilantro (chopped)
¼ cup of chopped red onions
Pineapple Salsa:
A cup of diced pineapple
1 medium size red tomato
1 medium yellow tomato
1 medium green tomato
Lime juice from 2 limes
2 garlic cloves chopped
A tbsp of ginger
¼ cup chopped cilantro
Dash of fresh chopped mint
Pinch of sea salt
Pinch of fresh ground pepper
Taco Filling:
Combine the juices, salt, pepper, garlic, and oregano and mix together well. Pour this mixture over the fish and let marinate overnight or at least 10 hours. Remove the fish for marinade and cut into small cubes. Grill fish and then place in a corn tortilla. Pick from these toppings: cilantro, onion and pineapple salsa.
Salsa:
Put pineapple in a blender, combine all tomatoes in a bowl and put half into blender, then add lime juice, garlic, salt, pepper, and ginger. Blend all ingredients until smooth. Place blend into a bowl and combine the rest of the tomatoes, cilantro, and mint.
