Read about the recent activities and projects of the Mid-Atlantic Catholic Schools Consortium staff and member dioceses:
As we come to the close of the school year, it is a time of reflection and celebration. So much has been accomplished this year in every classroom and every school. While we publicly celebrate the graduations of our high school students and our eighth graders, we also need to remember the learning and growth experiences of all of our students and the dedicated service of our teachers and administrators. I was delighted to attend two impressive graduation ceremonies this month in Washington, DC – the 154th commencement ceremonies of St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC. and the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Graduation Ceremony held at Archbishop Carroll High School. Both ceremonies provided clear evidence of the opportunities provided by our Catholic schools for faith formation, academic excellence and personal and civic growth. We need to make sure that families can continue to choose the best school for their children. The continuation of the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program is essential for this to happen in our nation’s capital. The inaugural class of the Pastor and Principal Leadership Institute meets for their final session this week. These teams have collaborated and worked together and found new strategies and friendships which we hope will sustain and support them and their important work in our Catholic schools. As we conclude the Consortium’s fiscal year, I want to express my sincere appreciation to all of you who have collaborated with us and enabled us to continue to work on behalf of all of the Catholic schools in the Mid-Atlantic region. In particular, we recognize our arch(diocesan) bishops and superintendents and their colleagues, our school and parish leaders, our business partners and donors, and our colleagues who share our commitment to Catholic education and school choice. Thank you for reading our newsletter. This issue marks the one year anniversary of the newsletter and I want to acknowledge Kay Kane who has served as our editor and production manager. She and I welcome your feedback. Best wishes to you and your families for a safe and happy summer. Sincerely,

Schools and Parishes Saving on Waste Management Schools and parishes in the Diocese of Arlington and the Diocese of Richmond have already signed up with Consolidated Green Services and will save an average of 11% on their waste management bills. For one school in Arlington, this means a savings of $2,300 on their annual bill! The schools and parishes can expect even more savings in Phase II when Consolidated Green Services audits their waste management needs and billing and adjusts services to ensure they are paying for only what they need and no extra. This can add up to big savings! To learn more about how you can save on trash and recycling programs contact Consolidated Green Services at MACSC@justsmartgreen.com or contact us at the Consortium at midatlanticcsc@gmail.com One Year of MACSC Newsletters - How are we doing? This month marks the first anniversary of the Consortium's newsletters. How are we doing? Please send any feedback, requests, or what we can include in future issues to help support and strengthen our Catholic Schools! Email midatlanticcsc@gmail.com with any comments. All are welcomed! As we finish up our 2008-09 fiscal year, we'd like to thank those business leaders, organizations and foundations that provided funds or in-kind support to help the Consortium work towards its mission.
In addition, thanks to all of the individuals who made personal donations. As we close our fiscal year, we invite each of our readers to consider a donation to support the ongoing work of the Consortium. As we honor Fathers in June, we offer this Prayer for Fathers: Most gracious Heavenly Father, We thank you for our earthly fathers, those to whom you have entrusted the responsibility to provide loving protection of their families and guidance of their children. We thank you, also, for our priests and bishops, whose spiritual fatherhood is so vital to the faith of your people.Assist all fathers of families, all spiritual fathers, and all Christian men, that through your Grace they may steadily grow in holiness and in knowledge and understanding of your Truth. May they generously impart this knowledge to those who rely on them. As you, our Heavenly Father, so loved the world, sending your only Son to be our Savior and Redeemer, we ask you to help all men to imitate His fatherly gentleness and mercy toward those who are weak; His humility, perfect obedience to your Will, and fearless witness to your Truth. May their lives be examples to all of heroic faithfulness to you. We ask your blessing on all those to whom you have entrusted fatherhood. May your Holy Spirit constantly inspire them with justice and mercy, wisdom and strength, fidelity and self-giving love. May they receive your Grace abundantly in this earthly life, and may they look forward to eternal joy in your presence in the life to come. We ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son and Our Lord, AMEN.
