Consortium News

Read about the recent activities and projects of the Mid-Atlantic Catholic Schools Consortium staff and member dioceses:

From the Executive Director

Dear Friends of the Mid-Atlantic Catholic Schools Consortium,

It is a pleasure to write to you again on behalf of the Mid-Atlantic Catholic Schools Consortium and to ask for your continued support of our Catholic schools.

America’s Catholic schools began in the Mid-Atlantic region and their contributions to our church, states, region and nation are immeasurable.  But now, more than ever, our Catholic schools require the support of the entire Catholic community.

In this month’s newsletter we are pleased to share the statement released by the Maryland-serving bishops,  "An Outstanding Apostolate of Hope: Maryland's Catholic Schools," that outlines the indispensable role Catholic schools play in the life of the Church and the state and invites Catholics to consider how they might help sustain this worthy work.   I hope that you will also read “Catholic Education: Looking to the Future with Confidence,” a pastoral letter written by Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl to the clergy, religious and laity of the Archdiocese of Washington.  Both of these documents provide clear statements about the essential role of Catholic schools and ways that each of us can support Catholic education.  We will continue to share other important documents with you in future newsletters.

October is a very busy month for our students, teachers and administrators. Our students are well into the routine of the school year and each of our dioceses is holding professional development institutes or meetings for their teachers and administrators.  These meetings reflect our shared commitment to ongoing professional development for faculty and staff and academic excellence and faith formation for all of our students. Our newsletter includes updates from each of the (arch)dioceses on professional development and other activities.

The inaugural session of the Consortium’s Pastor and Principal Institute begins on October 14 and we ask for your prayers for the success of the Institute and for each of the participants.

In closing, as we celebrate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, may we all be called to be instruments of peace.

Thank you for your continued support and interest.  Every best wish.

Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi

In honor of his feast day on October 4th, we offer a prayer of St. Francis of Assisi.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
