Energy Savings Tip!

Convert incandescent light bulbs with Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) which last much longer and use about 35 percent as much energy to produce an equivalent amount of light.

From the Executive Director

Dear Friends of the Mid-Atlantic Catholic Schools Consortium,

Congratulations to the Class of 2008!  We are so proud of the accomplishments of the graduates of all of our Catholic elementary and secondary diocesan and independent schools and colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic region and extend our warmest congratulations.  We pray that God will continue to bless each of our graduates as they prepare for high school, college, graduate school or the work place. May the lessons of faith, service and excellence always be with them.

As we conclude this school year, it is important to take the time to thank the parents and family members, teachers, volunteers, donors, and all of the friends and advocates of Catholic schools who contributed and supported our students, teachers and schools this year.  We know that our schools face many challenges but with the commitment and generosity of so many, Catholic education will continue to be a vital resource for our students, families, Church and local and global communities.

Please take a few moments and read about the work of the Mid-Atlantic Catholic Schools Consortium and the news stories from each of our six dioceses.  This year we have collaborated in new and exciting ways to strengthen our schools, reduce costs and improve efficiencies, support the legislative efforts of our Catholic Conferences and continue to obtain the state and federal benefits to which our children and schools are entitled.  We join others in supporting the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program.  I hope that you will continue to support our work. And, as always, I welcome your suggestions and advice.

I ask you to remember our Catholic schools and our students and families throughout the summer. Your prayers and generosity will continue to make it possible “To make Catholic Schools the schools of choice for Catholic children and families, and all who may desire an education rooted in the Catholic tradition and Gospel values.”

Best wishes for a happy, relaxing and safe summer.

Peace.

Energy Conservation Workshop

Thirty eight (38) participants from the Archdioceses of Washington and Baltimore, and Diocese of Wilmington attended the recent Energy Conservation Workshop. They learned simple and low cost energy conservation practices regarding lighting, AC/HVAC, and electricity. The presenter, Richard Anderson of CQI Associates, explained how schools and parishes use energy and clarified related costs and billing. (Did you know you can save 5% by simply turning off lights and computers. It adds up quickly!)

Many thanks to our host, St. Matthias Apostle School in Lanham, MD and to Graybar for sponsoring the lunch. Look for future workshops in other locations with in the Mid-Atlantic region.
