Underpinning Subcommittee Update

The underpinning subcommittee is currently in the progress of creating an update to the previously issued Underpinning Guidelines (UP-08) published by FAS3 in 2008. These guidelines will be geared towards the application of different underpinning systems (helical piles, driven piles, drilled piers, etc.) and how each system performs in specific applications. The revisions will also address what information needs to be provided in the shop drawing submittal from the contractor to the Engineer of Record, minimum guidelines for load testing an underpin bracket assembly, how soil profiles affect the size of pin piles, calibration of field equipment, and the evolvement of underpinning cast-in-place slabs. The underpinning subcommittee is working towards completing the updates to the UP-08 by the fourth quarter of this year.
