Kenny Has A New Sister and Sophie Is Home FURever!

Julie has been renamed Sofie Nevaeh (pronounced Na-vay-ah, which is Heaven spelled backwards because she is heavenly). When we seen a picture of Sofie it was love at first sight just like it was with her brother Kenny, who we also adopted from AADR. Sofie looks so much like Kenny, we call them the twins.

Sofie is an amazing little girl who has adapted to our family quickly. When she came to us almost a month ago she still exhibited typical puppy milltraits. Even though she still has some issues everyday is a milestone for her. Sofie is learning how to play with other dogs and with people. She is initiating the play herself and the other day started pulling many of her toys out of her toy box to play with them. People she doesn’t know well she will allow to hold her and she will also walk up to strangers to say hello. This is a huge step for our little girl. She goes to doggie daycare 3 times a week with her best friend, her brother Kenny. She loves all of her fur siblings but Kenny and her have formed an amazing bond and can be found snuggling when they are sleepy. When Sofie first came to us she had to be with Kenny at all times but now she is finding independence and does not need him as her security blanket. Sofie has become our spoiled little princess. She has a full wardrobe of clothes, a stroller, a papoose so we can carry her close to us, a big princess bed shaped like a slipper, many toys and a family that loves her immensely. She loves to sleep in between us at night or in the crook of one of our arms. Sofie gives everyone in the family kisses every day, her little tail seems to wag most of the time and the corners of her mouth turn up into a smile.

We want to thank AADR for rescuing Sofie and giving her a second chance at life. Also a special thank you to Sofie’s foster mother, she is a true angel, she taught Sofie that it was okay to trust a person and without that I don’t think Sofie would have been able to bond and adjust so quickly with us. Princess Sofie is forever grateful for all that the rescue has done for her and I know she will never forget it, I know we won’t.

Sammy's Story

Sammy has known nothing but pain and fear in his short life. AADR has promised him that only love and happiness will surround him in the future.

Please Helps Us Keep Our Promise!

snoopy5.JPG

Sammy is 8 years old and this picture depicts what his entire life has been like up until this month. Living in the mud and surrounded by snow and ice, Sammy sits chained to a filthy and leaky dog house. Sammy has never known the gentle touch of a hug or the warmth of his own bed. He doesn't know what its like to have shelter from winter's toughest storms and to feel safe in his person's arms.

If that isn't bad enough, Sammy is paralyzed. He snoopy3.JPGonly has use of his front legs. Just to stay out of the rain and to eat what little food he was given, Sammy was forced to drag his tiny body across the freezing, hard ground to stay alive. His pain is excruciating and he has been living this way for 4 years! His muscles have atrophied and his body has deteriorated.

Despite all of this, when a good Samaritan came to pick up Sammy and to meet his previous owner, Sammy showed nothing but happiness! His complete focus was on his previous owner despite how he had been treated. Sammy has a heart of gold and unwavering devotion.

Due to Sammy's condition and to the amount of time it has been left untreated, we have no doubt that his recovery will be expensive and time consuming. He needs back surgery desperately, not to mention he has not been given shots and heart worm prevention and has not been neutered. Sammy's medical treatment will cost in the thousands yet we know that he is worth it! We could not let this sweet boy continue to live like this and we are dedicated to his well being and happiness.

Lena

Up until a week ago, Lena didn't know what her future would hold.  At 8 years old, she found herself being stuffed in a wire crate and being left outside of Animal Control on one of the coldest and rainiest nights of the year. She waited all night for her family to come back but they never did. Her tiny 10 pound body was shaking uncontrollably when the shelter workers found her the next morning. They found that she was underweight, had a large fatty tumor on her stomach, painful skin soars, was not spayed, and had infections and heavy tarter on what few teeth she had remaining. If she isn't picked up just right, she will cry out in pain. Yet Lena never showed any signs of aggression. She was quiet, sweet and quickly burrowed under the blanket they gave her.misc 006.jpg

She waited at the shelter for someone to rescue her but no one did. Afterall, who wants an 8 year old dachshund with health problems? Lena spent all weekend in her cold cage. On Monday, a member from All American Dachshund Rescue came and showed her that she was wanted! She was wrapped up in 3 blankets and quickly fell asleep on the ride home. She finally felt safe.

Despite the pain she is obviously in, Lena is starting to come out of her shell. We have learned that she has wonderful house manners. She is potty trained, crate trained, and promptly tucks herself into her bed at 9:00 every night. She doesn't know what kisses are and she is hesitant to crawl into a lap although its obvious she wants to!! She gets excited and she hops back and forth with her tail wagging.

Please help us show Lena that life will be happy for her from now on. Her medical bills will be high and we still do not know the extent of the care she needs. To visit Lena's web page, please click HERE.
