Potentially Deceptive Website Reported

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) wants the public to be aware of a misleading website.

The website, http://bailout.hud-gov.us, is potentially deceptive in its presentation.

There is some concern that the appearance and content of this web page could mislead an unsuspecting reader.

This particular website has no affiliation with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Deceptively Targeting Homeowners
The site's home page, titled "Home Affordable Modification Program," makes reference to mortgage modification, avoiding foreclosure, and related topics. It then invites the reader to apply online for a "U.S. Loan Modification Plan" and asks for certain identifying information as part of the application process.
