Infrastructure Improvements for Residents in the Borough of Kennett Square

The Chester County Department of Community Development (DCD)finallogoonlyforwebsite.jpg awarded $175,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for street and sidewalk reconstruction in the Borough of Kennett Square.

Much of the revitalization work was recently completed.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to recognize the success of this project.

On November 6, 2009, two Chester County Commissioners joined area leaders in highlighting the South Street reconstruction project to showcase the positive effects generated by such investments in our communities.  Improvements such as these benefit all local residents by contributing to neighborhood vitality and safety.

Third Home Acquired Locally for Neighborhood Stabilization Program

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) authorized the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) for the purpose of stabilizing communities that have suffered from foreclosures and abandonment.  In Chester County, NSP funds are being administered through the Chester County Department of Community Development (DCD) to help stabilize local housing markets that have been determined to be at-risk, in order to reduce the prospects of declining home values in the surrounding area.

DCD is proud to announce that a third distressed property has recently been acquired for rehabilitation.

The Neighborhood Stabilization Program is providing opportunities to rehabilitate, resell, or redevelop abandoned and foreclosed properties in at-risk areas.

Working with Marasco Real Estate and Development, the Community, Youth and Women's Alliance of Coatesville and the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Delaware Valley, the NSP is actively functioning, with reconstruction on the first acquired property set to begin soon.

Questions regarding the Neighborhood Stabilization Program may be sent to ccdcd@chesco.org.
