Greetings, Undrivers!
There's something magical about Undriver Licensing™.... it seems to activate our curiosity, open up new possibilities for how we might get around, and it really does lead to new transportation habits. We love hearing what Undrivers are discovering, as they report in on their progress after pledging. It can be contagious, too!
We licensed a lot of families in Redmond last month, and were curious how these family pledges would play out. Marisa and family pledged to "walk, bike, and bus more," and here's her report:
"We have a family of 6, and that can mean driving someone somewhere everyday! I suggested to my kids that we would walk more, ride bikes, and go out for groceries and errands just 2x per week. We planned out our week and really stuck to our plan. We shared our excitement about our Undriver Licenses with neighbors and encouraged them to do the same - and it's working!"
Thanks, Marisa! Turns out that our Founding Licensing Partner, Intercity Transit, is also getting great results from using Undriver Licensing in Olympia - it's helping them engage with kids at schools, employees at workplace transportation fairs, and potential bus riders at community events. We are excited to be presenting on Undriving at two conferences in the next two months, where we hope to connect with more Official Licensing Partners to keep spreading this successful program. Thank you for being a part of it!
Thanks for Undriving, Julia Field & the whole Undriving team

Meet Bob Edmiston: Undriver #4,267
This resourceful Undriver was on a quest to find the cheapest, most time-effective commute option. He systemically experimented with six different ways of commuting to work: car, electric car, motorcycle, bus, bike, and electric bike. What mode of transport did he deem the "Excuse Eliminator"? Undriving Goes to Bumbershoot!
As August winds down, we are gearing up for a busy Labor Day Weekend this Sept. 3-5 — the Undriver Licensing Station™ is headed to Bumbershoot, Seattle's legendary music and arts festival, from 11am-8pm each day.
Volunteer! YOU can be part of this event by helping license Undrivers. We'd love your energy and enthusiasm — and in return, you'll receive a free pass to Bumbershoot for the day you volunteer ($45 value), plus ten free METRO tickets! Simply pick a shift to work (11am-3:30pm or 3:30-8pm each day) and email us. This is an opportunity not to pass up.
And while you're at Bumbershoot, check out Undriving’s debut in the 1 Reel Film Festival, where three Undriver video stories will be showcased on Sept. 4 at 1pm. Thanks to aLIVE and 4Culture!
Around the world on Sept. 24, 350.org is getting communities moving to combat the climate crisis. Join a Moving Planet event in your hometown, or start one yourself.
Seattle-ites: Join a bike or boat brigade around Lake Union, come get your Undriver License™, participate in climate change workshops — and take part in the big rally. Different human-powered groups will all converge at South Lake Union Park. Undriver Michael Smith will also lead a caffeine-fueled "Espresso Hike" around Lake Union - register here starting Sept. 8. Pssst: Want to volunteer? Help us license Undrivers from 11am-2pm and get free METRO tickets. Thanks!
