LA TROBE FOUNDATION NEWS
Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre - Grandparents' Meet and Greet Day
The Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre (OTARC) was established with funds from a private donation by Mrs Olga Tennison to La Trobe University in 2008. It provides a vehicle for research activities, evidence-based intervention programs, training opportunities and collaboration between community services and research centres / universities involved in autism research both in Australia and overseas.
On 18 February OTARC held its first-ever event for grandparents of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, seeking ways to help and improve the lives of their much-loved grandchild or grandchildren.
The day was an opportunity for grandparents to empower themselves with knowledge and information and to find out more about the work of OTARC. Informal feedback from the session has confirmed that it was a great success and more interactive events of this kind should take place.
