In the June edition of the Alumni e-news, we take a close look at two recently held historic reunion events: the Bendigo Teacher’s College 50th reunion, and the Northern District School of Nursing 60 year celebration.
We celebrate the launch of the La Trobe University Football Club Alumni Chapter, and encourage all former members of the Football Club to reconnect with the University and the Club.
We also announce the four La Trobe alumni who are finalists in the Australia-China Alumni Awards.

Calling all former La Trobe Football members!
There have been well over 3,000 members who have played for the LTUFC over the past 40+ years, and the Club is keep to keep in contact with former club members. The LTUFC Alumni Chapter aims to continue to welcome former Club members back for reunions, matches and other events.
If you were involved with the Club as a player, coach or in any other capacity, you are encouraged to contact the Alumni and Advancement Office to let them know that you were a former member of the LTUFC. You will then be able to find out about the latest LTUFC news and stay informed about upcoming events and matches.
Complete the online update form or contact the Alumni and Advancement Office to stay in touch. (Don't forget to mention that you're a former or current member of the LTUFC to ensure that you are provided with relevant information!)

Northern District School of Nursing graduates celebrate 60 years
On April 17 the Northern District School of Nursing Graduates Association (NDSNGA) celebrated 60 years of heritage, history and friendships with a reunion in Bendigo. Guests attending the reunion came from all over Australia, eager to rekindle friendships. The former school of nursing, Northern District School of Nursing, which was the first of its kind in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere, was located at Lister House in Rowan Street, Bendigo. Read

Bendigo Teacher's College 50 year reunion
On Saturday May 17th 2010, the 1960 student intake of Bendigo Teachers’ College held a reunion to commemorate 50 years since the College’s founding. The reunion, which took place in the Burnett Lounge, in Bendigo, saw over 80 former students come together to mark this momentous point in the history of the College, which is an antecedent institution of the current La Trobe University. China Health Chapter launch
The China Health Chapter of the La Trobe University Alumni Association was officially launched at the Forum on May 7, 2010. Around 500 Chinese health managers have graduated from the La Trobe
China Health Program since La Trobe set up close collaboration with
Peking University and Harbin Medical University and established the
Master of Health Administration program in China in 2000. Read

Australia-China Alumni Awards finalists announced
La Trobe University is preparing to host a table at the upcoming Australia-China Alumni Awards cermeony in Shanghai in July. We are proud to announce that the University has four alumni who are finalists for this year's awards:

La Trobe alumnus scoops Camera d'Or in Cannes

Michael Rowe has picked up the prestigious Cannes prize for best first film for a torrid tale shot and produced in Mexico.
The film Leap Year is set in a claustrophobic apartment in Mexico City. It was among 24 first films competing for the Camera d'Or award for best first feature movie.
Research recognition

La Trobe University biochemist, Professor David Vaux, has been awarded the 2010 Macfarlane Burnet Medal by the Australian Academy of Science at a ceremony held in Canberra.
The biennial prize recognises scientific research of the highest standing in the biological sciences. As part of the award, Professor Vaux also delivered the Academy’s prestigious Biennial Macfarlane Burnet Lecture. Read

Australia’s first Zero Emission House

Award-winning technology developed by La Trobe University has been incorporated in Australia’s first Zero Emission House.
The house is fitted with La Trobe University’s unique Home Energy Management System which tracks energy and water use and supply. Linked to an on-site weather station it can also factor in local weather conditions. Read

Scholarship recipients announced
La Trobe University is delighted to announce the students who are to receive a number of scholarships funded through generous donations to the University. These scholarships make all the difference to our students.
The Carolyn O'Gorman Plenty Valley Community Health Scholarship
The winners are Kirsty Vallily, who is commencing a Bachelor of Psychological Science and Megan Clarke who is commencing a Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Occupational Therapy Practice.
The La Trobe University Founding Cohort Scholarships
The winners of these scholarships are Victoria Buffon, Glenn College resident, studying a Bachelor of Health Sciences/ Master of Orthoptics and Kirsty McFarlane, Chisholm College resident, studying Bachelor of Arts (Humanities and Social Sciences)
The Richard Zann Memorial Scholarship Prize
The winner of the 2009 prize, awarded while a more detailed program is developed, is Katherine J. Hamilton, who achieved the top mark in the third year component Animal Behaviour at the end of last year. Kat also achieved the top mark in Behavioural Ecology and achieved the highest overall score in third year zoology.
On being told of her award, Katherine said: “Richard Zann was such a well respected ornithologist and member of the La Trobe Zoology department. I am honoured to be the first recipient of this award. I think such an award is an excellent way of remembering Richard Zann”.
