Alumni events in Asia attract strong attendance
In September a contingent of senior La Trobe University staff attended a series of events for alumni and friends in Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. Once again we were overwhelmed by the sense of alumni pride, connectedness and energy in these regions, with each event attracting strong attendance.

La Trobe University continues to strengthen its links with China, with the establishment of a prestigious Confucius Institute, in conjunction with Chongqing University. The Institute is being developed with the support of the Chinese Government and will have a strong focus on Chinese language and culture.

Top-ranking HR degree recognised by AHRI
La Trobe University’s Human Resources degree has been officially recognised by the prestigious Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) with three years accreditation, giving it national assurance of quality and excellence. The AHRI’s accreditation of the course confirms its place among top-ranking human resource programs in Australia.

LA TROBE FOUNDATION NEWS
$20K donation to support Bendigo students
The La Trobe University Foundation is delighted to announce that a new bursary is to be established to support dental students and paramedicine students at the new La Trobe Rural Health School in Bendigo.
A generous donation of $20,000 has been pledged from Dr and Mrs Holsworth of Strathdale, Victoria, who are ongoing La Trobe donors. Dr Holsworth is a former staff member from the Bendigo College of Advanced Education and Mrs Holsworth is a well-known local historian.
In operational news, the Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Ric Fletcher who has accepted the position of Manager, Fundraising for La Trobe University. Originally from South Africa, Mr Fletcher emigrated to Australia in 1999 and settled in Tasmania, where he held business development roles at two prestigious independent schools before moving on to Cancer Council Australia.

Ban the Bottle Day
Join the Ban the Bottle campaign launched by La Trobe students to raise awareness of the harmful health and environmental effects of bottled water. Of the 550 million litres consumed in Australia each year, only 20% of these plastic bottles are recycled.
