Dear {FIRST_NAME|Alumni},
This month sees the first set of 2010 graduation ceremonies taking place on the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus and I am looking forward to welcoming the latest cohort of graduating students into the La Trobe Alumni family.
As many of you will already be aware, there are a broad range of ways in which recent graduates can continue to benefit from the continuing relationship with the University, including the Young Alumni Group and the 2011 intake of the Infinity Leadership Program.
The post-graduation period is an exciting and turbulent one and on behalf of La Trobe University I wish you all the best in your new professional and personal endeavours. Please remember to stay in touch with the University and to complete the update form whenever you change your address.
Warm regards,
Mrs Sylvia Walton, AO
Chancellor of La Trobe University
Patron of the La Trobe University Alumni Association

CAREERS CORNER
How to explain those gaps in your résumé
Over the course of our employment the reality is that we are all going to have some gaps here and there in our resumes for a myriad of reasons. It could be due to travel, family, study, redundancy, a career break, ill-health, time off between employers and so on. In fact, it would be somewhat unreasonable not to expect there to be gaps in résumés, particularly of workers who have been in the workforce for a number of years.
A common question that comes up from job seekers is “What is the best approach to account for these gaps in their work history?” The other question is “If I choose to disclose the nature of these gaps, at what point in the recruitment process is it most advisable to do so?”

NEW MASTERS PROGRAM

New Master of International Development course
La Trobe University’s new Master of International Development is taught at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus. The course offers a unique combination of theoretical and practical subjects which support critical and reflexive engagement with governmental and non-governmental organisations, aid agencies, advocacy groups and movements seeking progressive social change.
The Master of International Development engages students in multidisciplinary learning about human society because the causes and implications of poverty, injustice, conflict, poor governance, and human insecurity are complex and multi-dimensional. Academics teaching in the Master’s program have research expertise in development, economics, ecology, sexuality, gender, anthropology, public health, sociology, politics, history, and planning. You will also study with practitioners who will provide unique insights into the world of development work and project management. SPORTS CLUBS
La Trobe University Baseball Club (LTUBC) and Claxton Shield 2010
The LTUBC in conjunction with the University secured the hosting of the national Claxton Shield Baseball Grand Final series after putting on a great show on December 4th. A crowd of just over 2200 people turned out to see the Victorian Aces beat the NSW Patriots at the bottom of the 9th innings. It was the biggest crowd to attend a Claxton Shield game in Australia this year. Due to the great effort of Student Services staff the night was a huge success. A great example of LTU Sports being a major attraction on campus.
Claxton Shield Grand Final Series took place on February 5-7th. More information can be sourced from the LTUBC website
