CAREERS CORNER
How to write and sell work achievements in your résumé
Achievements are an important part of your résumé, more so perhaps than responsibilities and should be given prime résumé real estate. If you have achievements already listed in your résumé, be sure that they are engaging to the reader and actually quantify and/or qualify what you achieved. If they are fairly uninspiring due to how you have presented them or if you have more exciting and relevant examples, please include these. Think of the reader. A couple of great achievements well written paint a positive picture and outshine a long list of basic and poorly written achievements.

Alumnights: Your Career - What's Your Plan B?
Around fifty La Trobe University alumni and friends made their way along to Ondergonds bar on Wednesday 9 September for this, the second chapter in the Alumnights seminar series.
Kelly Magowan, La Trobe alumna and CEO of executive job site Six Figures, delivered expert risk management advice on the topic "Your Career: What's Your Plan B?". The interactive presentation explored various issues such as résumé writing, online profiling and interview techniques. Read more

La Trobe wins seven Future Fellowships
The Federal Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research,
Senator Kim Carr, announced today that La Trobe University has won seven
of the first round of 200 Australian Research Council (ARC) Future
Fellowships.
‘I am absolutely thrilled that our strategy of focusing on our key
research strengths both in our recent LIMS and Future Fellowship
applications has proved successful,’ said Professor Tim Brown, Deputy
Vice Chancellor Research. Read more
Public thinkers tackle critical issues
In 2009 La Trobe University established the Ideas & Society Program and its convenor is Robert Manne, Professor of Politics. The aim of the Program is to bring students, staff and the general public together to consider some of the critical questions of the times and to enliven intellectual life at the University.
In October, two public events will take place, including a conversation session with Malcolm Fraser, former Prime Minister of Australia and Barry Jones, former President of the Labor Party. Read more
Dinosaur profile: Australovenator
In a town called Winton in Central Queensland, three new dinosaurs have been found which are of huge significance to Australia. They’re the most complete dinosaurs officially announced and named in this country for over thirty years. One of these is Australovenator and is Australia’s first carnivorous dinosaur, a therapod. 2010 POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS

In 2010 La Trobe University will award over 100 living allowance scholarships to candidates enrolling in Doctoral and Masters by research programs.
While applications are invited for any area of study in the Faculties of Science; Technology and Engineering; Health Sciences; Humanities and Social Sciences; Law and Management; and Education, the University would be particularly interested in applications within the research focus areas of:
Agribioscience and the Environment; Health and Society; Human Behaviour and Thought; Human Communication; Human Society and Organisation; Molecular Science; Studies of the Past.

The Impact Of Digital Technologies On Contemporary Printmaking
The 2009 Rae Alexander Lecture presented by Professor Sasha Grishin AM, FAHA - Sir William Dobell Professor of Art History and Head of Art History at Australian National University, Canberra - this lecture examines digital technology's impact and the slippages which have occurred in the aesthetics of printmaking and in the concept of the original print.
