NECSP Recieves More Funding.
New England Coalition for Sustainable Population was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Weeden Foundation to research, develop and advocate for a National Sustainability and Population Policy (NSPP).
NECSP will consider the
broad social problem of perpetual national population growth. We'll study the negative impacts of such growth on long-term national sustainability, and provide a
sufficiently full and fair exposition on the merits of a NSPP.
NECSP will
disseminate our findings to New England region congressional
delegates, opinion leaders in the media, and the leadership of other regional
environmental and social organizations. We will also embark on a public relations campaign, in part by writing "open letters" to the
leaders and constituents of the more well known environmental and social organizations, and
to the editorial boards of major state papers, regarding a NSPP.
As part of our work, we'll also maintain careful records of NECSP
experiences and produce a year-end report for the Weeden Foundation -- to be disseminated to other
population advocacy organizations around the nation highlighting our
learning and recommendations for similar or related projects.
We look forward to sharing our results with you and all of the New England community. Please support our efforts by telling your friends about us, making a donation or writing a letter to your local paper, town council or elected representative!

As
NECSP develops into a serious, action-oriented organization, it is
important that we are represented by the best and brightest in New
England. Currently, we are interested in recruiting activist-oriented Board members from CT, RI & ME.

On March 17th, our friends at Population Connection were letting us know that Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Representative
Barbara Lee (D-CA) had just announced the introduction of the Responsible
Education About Life Act in the Senate and House.
The REAL Act
authorizes federal funding for comprehensive sex education programs,
which, unlike abstinence-only programs, currently have no dedicated funding
stream.
It is almost too audacious to imagine, but federally funded abstinence-only programs are forbidden by
law to accurately discuss both the risks and benefits of condoms and
contraception.
The REAL Act calls for sex education that is medically
and scientifically accurate, free of religious bias, and empowers young
people to make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual
behavior.
With a new and more supportive Congress and President, Population Connection feels that there is a
real opportunity to make a difference in the lives and health of
teens. Please take a moment to urge your Senators and Representative
to co-sponsor the REAL Act and stand up for real sex education.
To do so, you can use Population Connection's powerful Legislative Action Center internet technology! Just follow the link below -- and get involved!
