Multicultural Community Weekend
Boston University hosts this annual event for admitted underrepresented minority students. It’s a great opportunity for students to experience first-hand the rich academic, social, and cultural life at BU. Some of the program highlights include an overnight stay in one of our dormitories with a current student, the Amazing Bostonian Race – a fun yet competitive race through beautiful Boston, and evening events such as the Terrier Lounge – a party to celebrate every student’s cultural pride through dance, food and music.

Bridge to Success Program
Rosemont conducts the Bridge to Success Program each August for incoming students. Bridge is a pre-orientation program which offers: academic support emphasizing writing and reading, college readiness, and study skills, individual mentoring, and team-building to a selected group of students. Under the guidance of a Bridge Coordinator, and with the instructional expertise of two Rosemont professors, students attend four days of classes prior to the start of the academic year. During the course of the year both the Coordinator and the staff of Student Academic Support will “touch base” with each student regularly, as well as with the student mentors.

First-Generation College Student Orientation
To support students of color and first generation college students, SCU believes that it is important to introduce their families to the college experience. This orientation is a chance for first-generation students and their families to learn about what SCU life is like from current students, professors and staff who are or were first in their families to attend college. It is also an opportunity to learn about resources and community for students of color. The dinner will include a panel and opportunity for incoming students to meet their new SCU family and ask questions about college life.

Orange EXCELeration (OE)
A fall orientation program, begins 6 days before the start of classes and is designed to fully integrate new students into their new life at Wartburg. Classmates get a jump-start on their Inquiry Studies 101 class while being oriented to academic expectations and strategies for meeting them. During OE days, students meet with faculty, advisors, and other students, and engage in various social and informational sessions—all designed to ensure a seamless transition from high school and home to college and campus life. In addition to academics and friends during OE, students are introduced to the leadership and service elements of the Wartburg mission by participating in a team-building activity. Students choose from one of 15 options including a low-ropes course and a variety of community involvement and service opportunities such as Big Brother/Big Sister programs, Habitat for Humanity building projects, and local food bank operations.

Students whose backgrounds and experiences demonstrate the ability to contribute to increasing socioeconomic, racial or ethnic diversity awareness at Whitman are chosen to receive these scholarships. Lomen-Douglas scholarships range from $2,000 to $43,000 and vary depending on achievement and financial need.
