Carter G. Woodson Open House and Enduring Legacy Award
Berea College honors one of its most notable alumni, Carter G. Woodson, with an annual event to welcome African-American prospective students to campus. African-American high school seniors are invited to attend the annual Carter G. Woodson Open House Weekend. The program provides students an introduction to the rich tradition of Berea College in serving African-American and other students of limited financial resources. In addition, Berea also recognizes promising African American high school juniors with the Woodson Enduring Legacy Award, held later in the year.

Intercultural Peer Leader (IPL) Program
Carleton College’s Intercultural Peer Leader Program offers a variety of services to address the academic, cultural and professional development of students of color at Carleton. Intercultural Peer Leaders are sophomores, juniors and seniors who have done well academically, are active in the Carleton community and are enthusiastic about meeting and assisting new students, sharing with them their knowledge and experience. IPLs plan programs and activities for the community as a whole, and they offer first-year students a personal perspective on the experience of living, growing and succeeding in a community that encourages diversity and individual differences and have often served as friends and mentors.

The SOAR Center
The SOAR Center (Student Outreach for Academic Retention) assists Claflin students in reaching their academic and personal potentials. The SOAR Center is comprised of a coordination of all of Claflin’s various student support services, including TRIO Programs, GEAR UP, and the Claflin Counseling Center. The SOAR Center also assists with discipline programs such as “Call Me MISTER,” a national model for recruitment, retention and graduation of minority male teachers.

Multicultural Leadership Program Summer Leadership Institute
The Multicultural Leadership Program Summer Leadership Institute is a residential pre-college program in which students engage in academic, leadership, and career-choice activities. Throughout the intensive one-week program, participants interact with Miami University students, faculty, staff and corporate representatives. Successful applicants have a minimum 3.1 cumulative GPA within a college preparatory curriculum, and have demonstrated leadership skills in school and within the community. Students who do not meet the GPA requirement are encouraged to apply if they rank in the top 20 percent of their graduating class. Participants receive a renewable $5,000 scholarship upon enrolling at Miami. For more information and application materials, click here. Scholastic Achievement and History of Achievement Awards
The University of South Florida’s Scholastic Achievement and History of Achievement Scholarships recognize select students from diverse ethnic backgrounds who have achieved above average academic records in high school while facing significant socio-economic, educational, cultural, linguistic or personal challenges. These $6,000 awards ($1,500 per year for four years) may be offered in combination with other university scholarships.

UTEP Promise and the Guaranteed Tuition Program
The UTEP Promise is a scholarship program that covers all tuition and fees for low-income Texans. Awarded to new freshmen who qualify for Texas resident tuition with an annual family income of $30,000 or less, the UTEP Promise covers all tuition and mandatory fees for 30 credit hours each year. Helping students and their parents plan better financially for college, the program offers financial stability and predictability. The plan guarantees that students’ tuition and mandatory fees will not increase for four consecutive years from the date of initial enrollment.
