The Howard Thurman Center for Race, Culture and Ethnicity
The Howard Thurman Center for Race, Culture and Ethnicity supports the academic success and personal development of all Boston University students. The Thurman Center offers programs and resources that encourage minority students to develop a sense of community on campus. The Thurman Center provides an orientation to minority freshmen at the beginning of the year to introduce them to the resources and cultural organizations on campus. Students also work with upperclassmen who serve as mentors through the cultural mentorship program.

Step Up to Leadership / Kravis Mentoring Program
The Henry Kravis Leadership Institute sponsors Step Up To Leadership, a program that enables high school students to develop leadership competence and character. Participating students, nominated by their high school principals, engage in daily sessions on topics like communication skills, project planning, cultural diversity training, community service projects and outdoor leadership trips. The Henry Kravis Leadership Institute also sponsors the Kravis Mentoring Program at the college. Through a partnership with a local middle school, seventh graders and college students are brought together to form mutually meaningful relationships. These middle school students receive academic tutoring, encouragement to pursue higher education and personal mentoring from Claremont McKenna students, and the partners attend group activities together such as field trips and community service projects.

Start Smart Program
Dillard University participates in the JPMorgan Chase-sponsored Louisiana Smart Start Scholarship Program, established in 2005, which provides opportunities to African-American students from Louisiana. The program rewards underserved African-American students who possess motivation, maturity, leadership and communication skills, and demonstrate financial need based on their family’s expected contribution. Each year, selected high school graduating seniors receive a full-tuition scholarship and funds for books and supplies, and, in addition, have access to a support network of mentors and peer advisers, along with career planning.

Diversity Leaders Program
Grinnell College is a place wide open to ideas and unusual perspectives. The Grinnell Diversity Leaders Program offers a free trip to campus for student seriously interested in Grinnell and a liberal arts education. Program participants will be hosted by Grinnell students. They will have an admission interview and be able to meet campus leaders in addition to enjoying lunch with professors and admissions staff. Participants will also attend sessions on admission and financial aid, engage in leadership development workshops, go on a tour of the Grinnell campus, and visit classrooms. Summer Program to Advance Leadership in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
For academically talented students admitted to Lafayette College who are from groups underrepresented in science/engineering (women, minorities, first-generation, or low-income) -- During the summer before their first semester at Lafayette College, ten students who show promise to become strong leaders earn credit for a calculus course and a writing seminar. Students also participate in a variety of activities that foster leadership on campus, in the community and in science and engineering. The mentorship continues throughout the students’ college careers. All expenses are paid for the summer program, including a stipend for successful participants.

Multicultural Weekends: Getting to Know “U” (fall) and Represent “U” (spring)
Prospective students from diverse cultural backgrounds are invited to campus to learn about the college by staying overnight and experiencing what Union has to offer. The weekends are planned to be informational and to provide hands-on experience with the college process. The programs include cultural and academic-life panel discussions, workshops on applying to college, as well as information on what type of supportive services are offered and should be sought in college. Getting to Know “U” will be held October 10-12, 2009 and Represent “U” will be April 10-12, 2010. Deadline to apply for Getting to Know "U" is Thursday, October 1, 2009.
