The College of Wooster

Youngstown Early Intervention Program
Selected students at Chaney High School in Youngstown, Ohio can participate in the Youngstown Early Intervention Program, which brings them to campus for two-week summer programs. During the summer sessions, students take math and English courses, as well as enrichment offerings in theater, computing, college advising and other areas. Students also visit three colleges and universities during each of the four summers they participate in the program, in order to expose them to a variety of institutions of higher education.

President's Scholar Program (PSP)
This four-year, full tuition scholarship is designated for students who are first in their families to attend college or are from traditionally underrepresented gender or race backgrounds at Harvey Mudd. President’s Scholars have an intellectual curiosity and a willingness to advance the college’s diversity efforts and are poised to become future leaders in engineering, science, mathematics and technology. Approximately eight first-year students are accepted into the program annually. In addition to tuition assistance, students have opportunities for summer internships, research fellowships and ongoing academic and professional development support.

Hardin-Simmons offers a nationally recognized Student Success Seminar, which helps students transition into college life. This three-credit, cooperatively taught (by a faculty member, staff member and student leader) course covers such diverse subjects as note-taking, relationship issues and diversity.

Protocols of Learning
Protocols of Learning is a study skills course offered by the Loyola Academic Resource Center (ARC). While the ARC also provides individualized study skills instruction and non-credit weekend and evening study skills seminars, Protocols of Learning allows students to apply skills to their current course work. The syllabus is designed with input from the students taking the course. Topics may include time management, note taking, memory, effective reading, critical thinking, learning styles, library skills and research skills.

Social Justice High School Scholarship
In an historic partnership, Roosevelt University has offered free tuition to qualified members of Social Justice High School’s first two graduating classes. The high school, located in Chicago’s Little Village/Lawndale neighborhood, has a high number of low-income Latino and African-American students who otherwise might not have been able to attend college.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions invites traditionally underrepresented students to visit the Tufts campus for a two-day fly-in program each fall that provides a multicultural perspective on attending the university. Bus transportation is provided from New York City, and students traveling from elsewhere can apply for a travel grant.
