Tele-mentoring Program

Academically talented high school students from underprivileged backgrounds face tremendous challenges in their pursuit of higher education and there is often a basic lack of familiarity with the college admissions process and the availability of financial options. To address this problem, Amherst College offers a tele-mentoring program in which eligible Amherst students use e-mail and the telephone to help high school students locate and gain acceptance to colleges and universities. The Tele-mentoring Program allows nearly 30 Amherst students from socio-economic disadvantaged backgrounds to serve as mentors to talented high school students from underserved schools across the nation.
