Wolf Trek

It was 2 am in the morning and we were walking across the remote Badenock Moor in the Scottish Highlands. I thought I saw something moving towards us in the dark up ahead. We had been walking at 4 miles an hour for the last 8 hours, yet still had 13 miles to go and were dog tired. Our minds had started playing tricks on us - creating movement that was not there, and slowing down time to a crawl. As the sun rose, so did our spirits...

We eventually finished at 7.30am, and to our surprise were the first team to finish this 45 mile epic. We had enjoyed a unique experience and raised money for Wild Hearts microfinance project in Ghana. Thank you to all of you for your donations to this great cause, giving the underprivileged a hand up not a hand out.

The following weekend, I found myself looking out the back doors of a RAF Hercules as it flew over the Severn Bridge...but that's a story for another time!

pencil.jpgFeature article: Customer reviews - why you should love them, but not trust them!

It's a well known maxim of marketing that you can't beat "word of mouth" as a way to spread your message. The reason is that we tend to trust the word of another, even when we don't actually know that person very well. But should we be so trusting?

Marketers are always trying to leverage this "people power" to disseminate information. Online you see it more and more in the form of Customer Reviews, where you can read comments from people who have purchased a certain product or service you may be interested in. This is great news for the store owner, as positive comments are likely to influence you to purchase. If you have an online product or service, it makes great sense to post up some great customer comments to try and influence the potential purchaser, and perhaps increase your conversion rate by a few percentage points.

Assuming the customer comments are genuine, you should still treat even the most well meaning of comments with a certain scepticism. The reason is what psychologists call "cognitive dissonance" and is an important concept to understand not only as a potential purchaser but also as a marketeer. Read the full article...

Internet marketing report scheduled for launch soon!

We are currently busy completing the first edition of the Internet Marketing Report, a complete guide to the very latest strategies, knowledge and techniques to ensure online success. Based on 10 years of internet marketing experience, the report is a complete distillation of our online marketing methodology.

It is packed with tips and techniques that you can use to drive more visitors to your site and get more conversions. With strategic insight that a marketeer could apply as well as technical knowledge that a webmaster would understand, we are sure that the report will have something to help you improve your online presence.

The report will be £99 on launch, but all newsletter subscribers will get a discount code allowing them to download it for just £10! Watch out for the launch email coming soon.

Hosting offer still available!

Our hosting promotion is still on, so if you want to set up new web sites, or move your hosting to a cheaper, nicer, faster and friendlier service, now is the time.

Just order any hosting package and enter code news01 to get 20% off. That means you could get a year’s web hosting for as little as £21.50! Hurry though, as the offer ends 1st October 2008.

Search engine friendly hosting is just that – custom made hosting packages that compete head on with the big boys of hosting on price, but pack in specific search engine friendly features you won’t find at 1and1, UK2, Fast Hosts and the other mass market hosting companies. Our servers are also UK based, fast and reliable.

Please do compare the packages with your current host – I’ll happily arrange a free trial for you if you contact me.

Prize draw winner!

The winner of the prize draw for a Flying Alarm Clock was Gavin, at Loch Lomond Distillery, who unfortunately now won't have any excuse for being late for work.

Until next time,

Jeremy.
