Obama’s visit to Ohio wind turbine factory signals support for green
jobs in state

Cleveland, OH (January 16, 2009) – Today, President-elect Barack Obama
will be in Ohio visiting a plant operated by Cardinal Fastener &
Specialty Company in Bedford Heights near Cleveland that manufactures
parts for wind turbines. Jeff Rusnak, a representative of the Natural
Resources Defense Council, released the following statement:

“President-elect Obama’s visit to an Ohio company that manufactures
parts for wind turbines signals his commitment to increase growth,
create new green jobs and invest in the state’s clean energy future. 

“Ohio was a leader of the industrial revolution and is poised to
become a leader in the clean energy revolution. The Ohio Department of
Development puts estimates for new wind power-related jobs in Ohio as
high as 30,000. The solar power industry could also create up to 8,000
jobs long-term.

“Ohio and other parts of America need investments in green industries
and related jobs to jump start the local and national economy. A
national limit on global warming pollution would create the market
conditions for industries in Ohio and elsewhere to innovate and profit
from the development of clean energy technologies that mitigate the
climate crisis.”
