Outdoor Outreach is proud to announce that Leadership participants Jesse Delgado and Gabby Hernandez are attending college this upcoming year.

Jesse, an outstanding surf and snowboard instructor with OO since 2005, has spent two of the last three winters in Alta, Utah pursuing his dream of becoming a professional snowboarder.

Upon his recent return to San Diego Jesse used his downtime to focus on studying for his GED. Not only did Jesse pass his GED test he has enrolled in City College for the summer to continue his education!

This past school year Gaby Hernandez has juggled her role in the leadership program, classes at El Cajon Valley High School and her commitment to athletics.   Gaby's determination paid off this March in the form of acceptance into both UCSD and SDSU!  She is excited to announce her decision to attend UCSD in the school of Latin American Studies with hopes of transferring into the Biomedical Engineering program.  Gaby is the first in her family to attend college and credits their support as a major factor in successfully navigating the college process.Congratulations to Jesse and Gaby on your accomplishments. We are so proud of you!

A New Way to Share What You Love

This year, Outdoor Outreach is starting a membership program called Share What You Love so you can become more connected to our mission and our youth as well as to a community of people who share similar interests. When you become a member, you’ll receive information about our programs, invitations to special events and outings, and updates from the youth--all in addition to the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made an impact on the lives of hundreds of kids!

Our first membership outing will be on July 17, and we’re going to catch some waves on a surf trip!  How can you get in on the action? If you haven’t already given to OO this year, simply make a donation of $100 or more then watch your email for information on how to sign up for the outing. And if you miss this one, don’t fret, we’ll have membership outings every quarter, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to experience the great outdoors with our fabulous field staff.

San Diego North-You can Help Bring the Business Home to Support Outdoor Outreach

SDN 4-color logo.jpg

In March, San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau launched a campaign, True North-Bring the Business Home, to bring corporate and association conferences and sporting events to our area, and they chose Outdoor Outreach to be their nonprofit partner! The campaign asks people to help target potential business leads within their circle of influence by providing San Diego North with contact names for potential conferences or events.  For each lead you provide, San Diego North will make a $50 donation to Outdoor Outreach; if your conference or event gets booked in San Diego North, they will increase the gift to $100, and for each hotel room that is booked, OO will receive an additional $3 per room night from the hotel.  Let’s say an average conference draws 400 people, each of whom stays in a hotel room for three nights---400 rooms x  three nights each=some serious cash for Outdoor Outreach’s programs!

We’re asking you to put your thinking caps on---to what organizations do you belong that hold conferences and meetings in other cities? What sports tournaments do you attend outside of San Diego? Do you know someone on a professional association’s board or one of the organizers of a conference or meeting? Remember, you can help our community’s at-risk youth simply by providing contact information to San Diego North!

For more information or to submit a lead Click Here

Thanks, San Diego North, for your commitment to our community and to the youth we serve!

Setting Sail with Sail San Diego

Youth from the El Cajon  Adventure Club working hard on their sailing trip.

Outdoor Outreach is always seeking new and exciting activities to share with the youth enrolled in our Adventure Clubs.  On April 15 the El Cajon Adventure club experienced their latest adventure, generously donated and organized by the local sailing company Sail San Diego.

Fifteen youth spent the day in San Diego Harbor aboard two 40’ Catalina sail boats. After a brief overview of the day, safety briefing and tour of the vessels by the crew, the youth were ready to set sail for the first time.

Participants received lessons in steering the boat and tilling the sails while enjoying a memorable day on the water. A big thank you to  Sail San Diego's co-owner, Michele Pasquale, and the entire crew for an adventure of a lifetime!  We are looking forward to our next outing in May with the Crawford Adventure Club.
