Dear WaterWatch Supporter,

Please take action today to support a landmark water agreement that provides significant improvements for fish and river habitat in the Crooked River while balancing the water needs of farmers, public utilities, and cities.

This August, U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden introduced the Crooked River Collaborative Water Security Act (S. 3483). This bill is the result of years of negotiations, spearheaded by the two Senators, which included the Warm Springs Tribes, the State of Oregon, the City of Prineville, local irrigation districts, WaterWatch, and other conservation groups.

The agreement marks the end of nearly 40 years of fighting over the unallocated water behind Bowman Dam. The vision provided by this groundbreaking legislation could not only help save the Crooked River, its prized redband trout, and its newly reintroduced steelhead – it could also make a major contribution to the region’s economy.

Congress will soon be making important decisions regarding S. 3483! Please help move this important legislation through Congress by emailing, calling, or writing to Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden today!

Points to Make to Your Senators:

  • Let them know you support the Crooked River Collaborative Water Security Act (S. 3483) as introduced and strongly oppose any changes that would sacrifice flows or reduce water set aside for fish and river habitat below Bowman Dam.
  • Let your Senators know how important protecting the Crooked River is to you and how important it is to safeguard this vital part of Oregon’s natural heritage.
  • Ask them to act swiftly to pass the legislation.
  • Thank Senators Merkley and Wyden for their excellent leadership in introducing legislation that provides significant improvements for fish and river habitat in the Crooked River while balancing the water needs of farmers, public utilities, and cities.
