Fun Play Boat or Addition...
Coming in a rainbow of colors, the new "Splash" line of sit on tops by Crescent is going to be a great addition to our already large line of kayaks.
These boats were recently introduced at the Canoe and Kayak Festival in Charleston, SC.
Morgan said they paddled extremely well, were very stable, (she demonstrated this when she stood up and used it as a paddle board). She also said they tracked great which is unlike the competition.
This single and tandem model kayak is made in the USA, comes with a 3 year warranty, and has all the features of an expensive kayak, but buying factory direct we can offer these boats at huge discounts. Starting at just $329* for a single and $449* for a Tandem.
It'll make a great second kayak, use as a dingy on a pontoon boat, or great for the rental house or summer house.
I just got back from a trip to the factory where these boats are created. Pretty interesting. They can make just about any color including camo in different configurations and colors. So I took my trailer with me and brought back a "bunch" of them!! So come check them out.
New Splash I and Splash II
*Seats and Paddles extra but includes discounts.
TIP OF THE PADDLE
I hear this a lot, "I keep hitting my hands on the side of the boat," or "I get soaked when kayaking." Usually people want a longer or shorter paddle. While selling a paddle would be great for sales, it's generally not the answer. Instead of a new paddle, let's try a new style. Most people are using their arms to paddle with instead of their torso. The arms have small muscle groups. They tire easily as they burn more calories, but build up lactic acid faster. This produces fatigue and cramps. Then later in the evening, soreness sets in. The torso muscles run across the stomach and into the back. They're large muscle groups and they don't get "worn out" as fast or as easily. They're very strong and last longer than the arm muscles. What we need to do is hold the paddle steady and twist our body which will move the paddle along a forward or reverse stroke. If the body twists, the paddle then turns perpendicular to the boat and in turn our hands no longer hit the side of the boat. Also the paddle stays closer to the water and the end NOT in the water isn't brought up high overhead during a low angle paddle stroke, thereby letting the water that clings to the paddle, roll off, hit the drip ring and goes back into the river, or lake. This reminds me also to let you know the drip ring should be no further than about 6" from the end of the shaft where the blade meets the shaft. We only want to use the paddle blade to propel us, not the shaft. If we're burying the paddle deep into the water, it may be the paddle is too long, or we're using the wrong kind of stroke. (Check out Paddling Tips on Werner TV on the Werner website Namely the forward stroke). For classes and instruction please check out our webpage. INSTRUCTION

Our third delivery is expected in two weeks and some of them are already spoken for. Come check out the new features and see what they've done to the Kayak Fishing Market.

FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS BY KAYAK
If you celebrated the Fourth of July Fireworks last year with us, you'll remember what a great time we had. Well, we're gonna do it again this year.
Remember the fireworks show? It was wonderful; the night was warm and clear, the water felt great, the food was delicious, and the kayaking was a peaceful paddle on the way home.
Again, we'll be in a safe protected area, with water shallow enough for same great wading. Pot luck finger foods is desirable, and beverages on your own. We'll leave our launch around 6 PM, doing a little tour of the Springs and maybe a dip to cool off. Then we'll moor our kayaks together and enjoy stories, games, and fun. Bring a Nerf ball and wading noodles for a game of Gladiator and Free Market Kayak Trade, or just sit and watch the fun.
Our list is already started, so sign up now as this is a limited number event. The official date for the Firworks is Saturday, July 3rd. Launch time will be 6:00 P.M.
Cost is FREE with your own boat, and for using one of our boats we ask for your help getting boats out and putting them away at the end. We will take in donations for the Save the Three Sister's Springs Project with ALL monies going to The Friends of Chassahowitzka who is spearheading the Project.
Finger Food Pot Luck, so please bring something to share. Drinks on your own, but no alcohol.
Nightime maritime rules will apply.

DRAGON ALONG
What's 45 feet long, Just under 3 feet wide, has a tail, a menacing head, and has 22 people in it's belly?
Our dragon boat club has grown substantially. I never realized it was such a popular sport until I started getting into it. At the first annual Dragon Boat Festival and Kayak Race in Homosassa, our Nature Coast Dragons were up against some fierce competition. We didn't do too badly concidering the teams we were up against, like the x-marines from the Villages. Now those folks are serious. They get up each morning and work out together, have a personal trainer, and practice continuously. While they were good, we were better in the Barrel Race and took home the trophy. There's events and races all over the world and a very large event in Tampa each year.
We're looking for new recruits and while it's a great workout, it's a lot of fun. Our team is made up of mostly retired folks, but we just recruited some younger blood. It's not a matter of strength, but rather endurance and technique. Just like kayaking technique directs whether it's all work or relaxing fun.
Check out the website and if you're interested in joining up or just coming by to see what it's all about, please do. You can sign up online or find out where we're going next.

KAYAK FISHING 101
Captain Ken says while the snook are still out of season because of the terrible toll this winter took on them, they're starting to come back already, and they're still a lot of fun to hook into. Just remember to reintroduce them back into the water using the revival techniques.
Redfish are expected to be hot this year. Let's Go Get Some.
|
They are one of the principal gamefish sought while fishing the flats and creeks of the Nature coast. They are year round residents. In the summer it is a blast to find the schools in the early morning. Get out your gear 'cause it's fishing season. If you'd like to go out with Capt. Ken he knows just where to hook into fish and leads guided fishing tours for us. Call us and make reservations now for some real kayak fishing.
Here's a tasty treat that goes great with seafood...

Capt. Ken's Hushpuppies
Every time I make these at a fish fry, I get rave reviews. This is for a small batch for maybe 6-8 folks.
1 Cup yellow Cornmeal (white works ok too)
2 Tsp. Flour (corn flour is great here)
salt (more than you'd think you should use)
1 cup Martha White Jalapeno Cornbread mix
1/4 cup chopped onions (wild onions from your lawn are best)
Scalding water to make a thick paste.
Fry in deep grease (peanut oil @ 375 degrees or so, please) after frying fish. Drain well.
Suggestion: Serve Chlorets as after dinner mints if you use wild onions.
So What's Going On With This Oil Slick?
Is It Going To Hit Us?
When Will It Arrive?
While no one seems to know for sure, I think it's important for all of us to keep an eye on events and happenings surrounding the Oil Leak. I've included some important links here for information and contact. Information and Latest Update
I've been in contact with Doug Alderson, advocate for Wildlife and the Ecology of the Earth. Doug has paddled some of the greatest and wild waters in and around Florida as well as numerous other places. He's written numerous books about his travels and local waterways. I asked Doug what we, as kayakers who wanted to volunteer to help save the wildlife and waterfowl from destruction of this devastating manmade disaster. We can't just go out and collect birds and animals as that would be dangerous, but there must be places or contacts where we as volunteers can learn to handle damaged wildlife. He gave me the following information contacts. Volunteer for Wildlife Recovery
The community information hotline where people can call to volunteer is 866-448-5816. The wildlife hotline is 866-557-1401.
CAPT. MORGAN, PRIVATEER?!
Besides a kayaking Guru, Morgan built herself a little PD Racer sailboat at the King's Bay Boat Works. A father and his Two Sons have started a school in Crystal River where you can learn to build wooden boats of all types, styles, and sizes. You can use their facility and tools and they'll give instruction and assistance along the way.
As it turns out Morgan, who's a member of the Crystal River Power Squadron and Sail, has quite a few credentials behind her name. Now boatbuilding is another.
There seems to be a PD Racer following around the nation and with certain rules of design, one can modify boats to look like certain vessels, (in miniature), Morgan's resembles a pirate ship.
That's Capt. Nick from the Crystal River State Park helping Morgan sail her vessel on her maiden voyage. Add a couple canons and a jug of grog and she may just pillage the City.
